D&D 5E Where are sunrods in 5e?

I'd actually want it to be an alchemical item that glows a huge radius for a short period of time, and the round you crack it to activate it, it's bright enough to blind people for a round, so you can throw it.

As, others have said, no, it's not in 5e. However, it (and other, similar items from 3e) does fit in with the "common magic item" from Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

I'm planning on adding them back in as things you can make with training in alchemy supplies.

The signature of champions.

Sunrod; 2gp, it glows as bright as a torch for 1 hour.
Sunburst; 50gp, must make a Con save (DC10) or be blinded for 1 minute, burst 20ft. Can make a save each round. After it glows for 10 minutes like a torch.

Cool backstory and you have it.

Never liked them, as I preferred the mental picture of a lantern or torch dimly illuminating the darkness.

I can see how they would be missed, though. 5e could have used a few additional alchemical items and poisons on launch.

I personally prefer torches and lanterns, and don't want the light spell to exist, at least not as a cantrip. I'd let light blind people if cast offensively, or maybe have it even deal damage to undead, or make incorporeal undead corporeal, so it's worth a 1st level slot. But yeah, normal exploration should be with fire.
