Whats the best race?

Crazy_Dragon

First Post
So, I have been wondering what you all think is the best race, AND why
I think

Dragonborn

Dragonborn Fury: When you’re bloodied, you gain a +1
racial bonus to attack rolls. Love that because its often

Draconic Heritage: Your healing surge value is equal
to one-quarter of your maximum hit points + your
Constitution modifier. Adding your Constitution Modifier? delicious more so for more martial classes

And finally for, Drum Roll please

(its kind hard to explain so its going to be a direct Quote)

"Dragon Breath Dragonborn Racial Power...
...Encounter Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Poison
Minor Action Close blast 3
Targets: All creatures in area
Attack: Strength + 2 vs. Reflex, Constitution + 2 vs. Reflex, or
Dexterity + 2 vs. Reflex
Hit: 1d6 + Constitution modifier damage.
Increase to +4 bonus and 2d6 + Constitution modifier
damage at 11th level, and to +6 bonus and 3d6 +
Constitution modifier damage at 21st level.
Special: When you create your character, choose Strength,
Constitution, or Dexterity as the ability score you use
when making attack rolls with this power. You also choose
the power’s damage type: acid, cold, fire, lightning, or
poison. These two choices remain throughout your character’s
life and do not change the power’s other effects."

Ahem now for Überness with Feats,

Enlarged Dragon Breath=Dragon breath becomes blast 5
Empowered Dragon Breath=Dragon breath uses d10s (replacing d6s)

Lightning Arc
Benefit: When you score a critical hit with a power
that has the lightningkeyword, you can choose to treat
the attack as a normal hit instead of a critical hit. If
you do, choose another target within 10 squares of
the original target that was not already targeted or
affected by the power. That target takes damage equal
to the damage dealt to the original target.

All of the races are actually pretty balanced this time around. Disclaimers around, here are my picks:

Halflings - Insane defense straight out of the box.

Dragonborn - Their stats make them great at several roles and their breath-weapon, when used well, can add a lovely bit of minion control to any class.

Humans - Balanced and good for anything, human feats are in general pretty excellent.

Elf - Fine stats, reroll is godly at epic levels (and damn good till then) woodland stride is also good.

Eladrin - despite their relatively poorer stats, teleport from level 1 is incredible for escapes and flanking and just getting around. It is an ability that maintains its usefulness.

Dwarf - INCREDIBLY HEARTY! Finally their mechanics fit them like I want!

I feel like Tiefling and Half-elf are weaker than the pack, but not significantly. They are still choices I could find myself making.

At first I thought Half elves were the best because I thought Dilettante gave you a power you could use at will. I have since learned better, and Half elves have gone down in my estimation.

I think that humans would be the uber-race if they had better vision. As it is, they need light sources at night and underground, and light sources advertise your presence to enemies.

I think the best race question depends entirely on what class you are making.

To me, the big question about the tiefling is how much does he get to use his +1 attacks vs bloodied targets ability.

Dragonborn get +1 while bloodied, but in my experience players try not to stay bloodied too long, and will attempt to heal up. But monsters get bloodied all the time, and a +1 is actually a decent amount for to hit rolls, so I think the tiefling is underrated in that respect.

I will say after seeing an elf in play, I have new respect for that +1 speed. you would not believe how often that comes up in play. So many times a 6 speed person could have made the distance, but taken an OA, while the elf is able to move around a bit more and get to the same spot with no problems.

Dragonborn are probably the best race if you want to play a defender or a warlord. They're the only PHB race with a STR bonus plus their dragon breath is excellent to deal with minions.

For clerics there isn't an obvious best racial choice. Dragonborn, dwarves, elves, and humans can all make good clerics.

For every other role I'd prefer different races. Tieflings, Eladrins, and Elves are better for strikers and controllers, both because of their ability bonuses and their racial powers.

Having said that, I have to agree that races are pretty well balanced this time around. You can create successful characters using any class/race combination.

I like my Eladrin. :)

I think the races are fairly well-balanced, although it can be argued to no end which race is the most optimal choice for which class and play style.

I was disappointed with the Half-elves, though.

I, for one, welcome our new monster overlords.

Can't underestimate minotaur for a pure beater or hobgoblin for a bloody effective damage dealing rogue or ranger, too...

Warforged make amazing front liners with the dragon changes.

Gnomes and changeling are awesome as sneaky types.
