What's a toon?

I just got a email from someone for a D&D game, who " ...can't wait to roll a toon out.". Images of flattening daffy duck (except that he is already flat) come to mind. I think I heard somewhere that characters in WoW are called toons and there is a WoW related type that is subtitled equipping your toon. Is "toon" just a WoWism?

'Toon' is also a terminology used by players of massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPG) to describe ones character or avatar within the game. The term is believed to be used again as a shortened form of cartoon, used as the character in the game is often an animated representation of themselves, or a cartoon version if you will.

Yeap, it's MMO slang for making a character, a lot of people say it in EQ, WoW, DDO, and such, but it's a lot more previlant in WoW.

I think it's mainly due to the CGI for characters, I think, and the cartoon feel of the armor, which I like (personally) a lot more than other games.

That said, I take tabletop and play by post over MMOs any day of the week; maybe if they ever work in role-playing, at least better than they have thus far, then I'll like it more.

I love hack-n-slahing, as much as the next folk, but character development is fun, too.

I translate it to PC.

Yep - as were my father and grandfather.

There are many well-known Toons, although none I can claim as direct relations. There's Al Toon, the New York Jets wide receiver and Malcolm Toon, the U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union back in the 1970s.

When you insult a Toon, you insult my lineage and I take great umbrage towards your disparaging remarks!

I went to college with that Toon.

Near my house, there's a Toon Funeral Home. We've always joked that that's where they embalmed Roger Rabbit.
