What's a good magic item for 10 grand or less?

I'm playing in a low magic game, and we're finally going to have a chance to buy some things. I have about 10,000 gold, what's a good item for a ranger/nentyar hunter?

I should add, almost any D20 fantasy source will do, as long as I can provide the dm with stats.

Also, the cool factor means more to me than the power factor.

Do you have strengths you're wanting to emphasize or weaknesses you're wanting to compensate for? In other words, are you looking for utility items (boots of striding and springing, goggles of night, for example), or for "just kinda neat" items (bottle of air, folding boat, deck of illusions, several of the figurines of wondrous power, and so on).

BTW, I don't know that all of those examples are less than 10,000 gp ... I'm just using them as illustration.

With not much gold to spent (usually low levels), I tend to go for the small but useful items more, like Heward's Handy Haversack, Hat of Disguise, Bag of Tricks, and such.

I second most of what's been said above. A traveller's cloak was about 1250 gp, I think. What level is your character at, and what's the ranger combat style?

It's actually called a Travel Cloak, but no matter. It's from Magic of Faerun, and costs 1200 gp. Keeps the wearer dry, provides Cold Resistance 5 (Endure Elements in 3.5e I suppose), provides food and water for one person each day, and can transform into a one man tent.

Some Suggestions
------------------------------
Ring of Feather Fall (2200 g.p., absurdly cheap for something that protects from gravity)
Amulet of Resistance +2 (4000 g.p., +10% chance of making all saving throws)
Potion of Fly (750 g.p., being able to go 3D short cuts alot of problems)
Potion of Water Breathing (750 g.p. is a small price to pay to avoid drowning)
Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds (750 g.p. to keep your cleric alive is cheap)
Wand of Cure Light Wounds (750 g.p. buys you 250 hp worth of emergency healing)
+1 Shock Longbow (~5000 g.p. buys you the ability to win just about any ranged weapon war)
+2 cold iron greatsword (~7000 g.p. but defeats most DR in the game)
Handy Haversack (2000 g.p. and would be worth it at three or four times that cost)
