Whatever happened to Maztica?

Is the existance of the continent still supported by Forgotten Realms/WotC? It does show up in the 'time line' in the new FR Campaign sourcebook (evidently discovered after the Time of Troubles but before the current year).

Wasn't Kara Tur was replaced by Rokugan though?? And did Maztica go away with Kara Tur? The fate of the 'other' continents is somewhat confusing.

I hope these places/locations do make a come back some day...as a new and exciting products.

I believe they will be released as seperate books in the Forgotten Realms line. I know Unapproachable East was just released or is about to be released and it may deal with the Hordelands/Karatur, but I am not entirely sure. They're also releasing an Underdark book, which is a large part of FR.

Thank you :)

I'll assume then that these places still do officially exist (post 3e era that is), and that they are simply not covered in detail in the current Forgotten Realms Campaign book.

Perhaps we'll see new material related to these areas in the coming years.

Anyone know of any reason why this might/could not happen?

Rokugan only replaced the Kara-Tur as a default setting for the new Oriental Adventures sourcebook.

Rokugan will never EVER replace Kara-Tur as part of the eastern setting for Toril/Forgotten Realms.

I appreciate the clarification...thanks :)

I do recall being somewhat annoyed when I discovered that Kara Tur was not the default setting when OA (when released). However, I can see why: WotC didn't want to link OA to the Forgotten Realms. The book turned out well though.

Still...I would love to see new products covering Maztica, Kara Tur, and The Lands of Fate (can't remember the name).

That was not the reason.

Kara-Tur is .... a finacial dead end and there was a lot of confussion about Legend of the Five Rings and AEG end up with Rokugan d20 with WotC doing OA.

Maztica was a part of TSR wounderful (not) idea of linking earth events and cultures to Toril, one thing is inspiration and another is picking up a history book and cut-and-past (a tactic that is still being used in today by WotC) and they found FR players were not too happy in seeing that.

They are not "removed" (unlike long established FR lore) but they rarely mentioned, with is a good thing because gods knows any book about it would intruduce yet another elf subrace ...

I don't know about another elf-subrace, but I sure would like to see something like volcano-monkeys :D from Maztica, or simply more material of an 'Aztec/Mayan' flavor.

The basic idea might be 'borrowed' from history, but I'm sure the right author could do wonders with it given the opportunity.
