What monster has the longest name?

First Post
Me and my friends were discussing which mosnter from D&D (past or present) has the longest name. I mentioned the wolf-in-sheep's-clothing, but he said that there were some monsters form OA that have really long names. Neither of us own the book, and it's out of print (or so it would seem, judging by the stores nearby).

This is really random and pointless, but does anyone know some other monsters with oddly long names? I just thought it would be interesting to see.

Well, that depends if you are looking for the longest single word name or the longest name, including spaces. I suspect that a strong candidate for the first would be the "Tuna-Of-The-Eternal-Waters" from Dragon #20, which just beats Wolf-In-Sheep's-Clothing.

If you don't mind spaces, then I can offer the "Fire-Breathing Phase Doppleganger Giant Space Hamster" from the first Spelljammer Monstrous Compendium (MC7), but there are probably some other strong contenders, depending on how you count the letters in the name.

From the 1st ed. OA, the Shirokinukatsukami or Eater of Dreams. A good spirit, it defends mortals from evil spirits at night.

Indeed. You might notice a minor connection between that particular creature and my profile ;)

*pretends to have no brain*

Really? What connection??

Seriously though, the Tyrannohamsterous Rex is pretty long.

D'oh Shirokinukatsukami has 1 more letter than the Tyrannohamsterous Rex (or the same if you count the space)

Hey, I just answered the question. Looking at people's titles is something I usually gloss over on any board.

Thinking of Asian creatures, did that book from Green Ronin have any long named monsters?

But there's a picture, dammit, a picture! :D :D

I'd have mention the Shirokinukatsukami in my first post, but it has fewer letters than both Tuna-Of-The-Eternal-Waters and Wolf-In-Sheep's-Clothing, so I figured it wasn't a contender. I see that the editors of Dragon #169 think otherwise though, and picked that at the longest name back in 1991 :).

That's a D&D monster? That name was what I was looking at when I was thinking about posting this as a thread rather than leaving it as a discussion between myself and my friend.

Weird...

Yes, that Shirokinukatsukami picture comes from Oriental Adventures. I actually chose it as my avatar because of the editorial in Dragon #169, where Roger Moore writes: "If you were about to send us a module in which a tinker gnome in battle armor must fight a goliath-monster with a Bohemian ear-spoon +5 that has taken over a planetoid shaped like a klein bottle inhabited by a shirokinukatsukami, think again." I do concede though that that sentence makes a lot more sense in context.

Aside: I miss Roger's wit! I wish Dragon could persuade him to write something for them again.
