What is the 2e Player's Option?

Can someone briefly summarize the 2e players option rule? What product was it introduced in? I've heard this described as AD&D 2.5e.

I was out of D&D completely when it came out. I am roughly familiar with 2e in its early days however (I have the 2e PHB).

Does the players option affect compatibility of products (adventures/accesories) produced in 2e after that rule was introduced?

I call it the "Munchkin's Option", or "Powergamer's Tactics". I bought all 3 books, but never used them - you could abuse the system all the way.

3E offers, imho, the same flexibility, but is much more balanced.

thanks

Aint it kinda late where you are?

:) I'm on an odd schedule these days. :)

How's the Moscow gaming scene been going for you since joining EN World? Finding new people to play games? I remember in another thread you mentioned buying most of your stuff online. Has that changed much recently? Are there any stores in your area for purchasing haming products? (Sorry for all of the questions but I am just curious...) :)

Of the three, I liked Spells & Magic the best. It's the only one that saw actual game time.

Edit: The DM's Option: High Level Campaigns is excellent. If you catch that one lying on the shelves, I'd recommend picking it up.

Almost forgot about the DM's option. iirc, it had lots more useful info for running a high-level campaign than the ELH, but I may be mistaken. Have to pull it out of the shelf some day.

johnsemlak - Thanks for the Emailed reply but I can't seem to reply to you without it bouncing back my way by the Postmaster. Here was my response...

That's a lot of interesting information and I really think you should share it in the thread. There's no real limit to what can be added to any thread and I don't think it would hurt anything at all to give that perspective of gaming in your area. It might make people appreciate how good they have it elsewhere! :-)

I wouldn't presume to post what you sent to me in a private Email despite my thinking that you wouldn't mind a bit. That said, I hope you get the chance to view this thread and add your thoughts to the questions above. :)
