I am in the process of commissioning a campaign specific map for post-Avernus Elturel and it got me wondering what cool stuff folks have had commissioned for they D&D games: character illustrations, customs minis, world maps, etc.

A bunch of stuff for my products: art, maps, etc. I'm pretty excited, though about some unit tokens I commissioned recently for a Kickstarter. They're for use with an OSR-style simplified mass combat system and are scaled to print out for a 1" hexmaps. I think they turned out looking great (artist is Marco Ortiz Walters, if anyone is interested)

EDIT: Shoot, I didn't realize it was for personal use.

Weirdly, given my job, I’ve never commissioned anything for personal use.
Funny enough, neither have I. Never really thought about it before. I have a hard drive full of thousands of stuff I've had commissioned for me over the past couple decades for projects, but never anything just for my own table.

I once commissioned a character sketch on a lark, but even after taking payment, the artist never delivered. I don't think this left me with a great opinion of commissioning work.

I once commissioned Anna Meyer to do a tweaked version of her famous map of Greyhawk. I found out that the one she'd posted publicly had several points that were from various non-canon sources (e.g. Dragonsfoot's The Tower of Azal'Lan), so I asked her if she could make one that removed those. She was happy to do so for a small fee (and I had to determine which points needed to be removed) and sent me the altered PDF.

Unfortunately, it's hard to find a place that will print a map that's 9.7' x 8.4' or so in size on a single sheet of material.

I can't say that I have - I've always made use of stuff scavenged around or bought more generically. If I were to do so, I don't think I'd ever do it for anything particularly ephemeral or transient like a single campaign or character. I'd want to be able to get my money's worth out of it and would use it persistently - like a gaming table. Trouble is, gaming tables are so expensive that they're really on the Cadillac end of things and I'm more of a Honda sort of spender.

I have never had anything commissioned - though my last D&D group got skull and crossbones t-shirts from the DM when we got the part of the campaign where we lost our letter of marque and became pirates in the eyes of the law (but for righteous reasons, of course). My current group's PCs just bought a noble's old hunting lodge to convert to an HQ and if it turns out to remain a central feature of the campaign I hope to get a professional to do a scale map of it.

Gaming tables are great if you're already in the market for a sturdy hardwood dining room table. But if you're not in that bracket, they're just too much to think about.
