What exactly is a Cambion?

I wondered again after reading Dragon #92 (superb!) what exactly is a Cambion. A Human/Half-Fiend?

[Edit]I meant Dungeon, of course.[/Edit]

If I remember correctly the Cambion made its first appearance in either the Fiend Folio or MM 2.

It was a half-human/Demon or Devil, don't reccall exactly.

In 2E they got a redress as a lesser and noble cambion. 1 being the combination between a human and a lesser devil the other a mjor one.

Then I think when Planescape came out they were more or less replaced by the Tieflings.

a cambion was the product of a succubus mating with a human male. so the 3e half fiend is essentialy it's replacement.

From 1e MM2:

Cambion is the always-male offspring of male demon & human female.

Alu-demon is the always-female offspring of succubus & human male.

Actually, I think they first showed up in the module S4. Along with the Alu-Demon.

But right, a cambion is the male offspring of a male-demon and human female.

So yeah, just a male half-human, half-fiend in 3e.

Not really. Cambions still remained in the same niche as they had done before. Tieflings held the wider category of 'plane-touched' - that might include demon blood but it included loads of other things too.

Tiefling is suppsed to represent a creature with some form of lower planes blood in them. This blood though can be a rather small percentage.
