What are your go-to dice?

Either standard Grey Ghost Fudge dice (if I'm playing Fudge, obviously), or else Gamescience dice.

They're clear and readable, roll well and stop quickly. Still no sign of wear after several decades of play.

A player bought me a bag of 12 sided d6s and I LOVE pulling them out when a fireball or breath weapon goes off against players that haven't seen them before.

I have 12d6 that I refer to as my "fireball" dice, because the 1-2-3 faces are predominantly yellow and the 4-5-6 faces are predominantly orange. It's easy to see at a glance whether you did above average damage with them or not, even before you start counting up the numbers.

Many of us have fun exotic dice or crazy collections. That's not this thread.

What dice do you use most of the time when playing and why?

I don't have go to dice, but I have a preference for vibrant dice and dice that look the color of jade stone. I tend to buy sets in one hue and use that hue for specific purposes (just for my own entertainment more than anything else: i.e. these are my combat dice)

The stuff I use most often is:

Chessex Vortex Bright Green/Black. I have the standard 7 set, a 10 pack of d10s, and a 12 pack of d6s. The high contrast makes them easy to read, my kid got me most of them, and the color reminds me of WFRP warpstone.

I have a DCC Special 7 set that's all different colors that I use with DCC because DCC dice and the different colors make them easier to use. When teaching DCC you get a blank stare when you say, "Roll the d30," but if you say, "Roll the big orange one," it's much easier and quicker all around.

And a couple of old GameScience 0-9 twice d20s. The half with the +s for 10s is colored in a different color for ease of use. These are my favorite dice and some of my oldest dice.

High end backgammon dice. Like casino dice, they are balanced to near aerospace precision, but they have rounded corners and edges so they roll well and you don't have to bounce them off a vertical to be reliably random.

And they have pips instead of digits, the way God intended.
