Wee Jas

"Goddess of Death, Law, and Magic, Wee Jas is demanding deity."

That's all I knew about her when I decided I wanted to make a lawful neutral priest of Wee Jas.

I then started reading all the information I could find about her on the 'net... and boy, am I confused.

Undead: Some sites say Wee Jas expects her followers to rebuke/command all kinds of undead on sight, except the ones loyal to her.
Some sites say Wee Jas doesn't allow her followers to control sentient undead like vampires unless they cast a Commune to ask permission.
Some sites say she is against the prolonging of life past the normal duration in any way, shape, or form.
Some sites say Wee Jas only allows her followers to command or create undead (of any kind) to serve her direct will, but that it is forbidden in any other circumstances.

Murder: Some sites say Wee Jas's servants have no compulsion against murdering neutral or chaotic people since they don't percieve death as a bad or unnatural thing.
Some sites say she would rather take the departed's souls only after they have lived their entire life, and thus murder is frowned upon.

Raising the Dead and Healing: Some sites say Wee Jas will only raise Lawful PCs or NPCs.
Others say nothing about it.

*shakes head*

What do you people think about Wee Jas? How should I role-play one of her priests?

Is her picture in Deities and Demigods HOT or what? I dont know why but I find it quite entrancing.

On raising: Only if they had work unfinished would be my guess.

Undead: Would depend on how you define the Law of death itself, are there loopholes in it?

Murder is killing without good reason, ususaly for giggles. Death is not BAD or unnatural but it is supposed to come in its proper time. So my vote would be murder is frowned upon.

The real fun of lawful organizations is twisting the rules and a lawful priest should be a master of it.

This will not be at all helpful to the original poster but yes, Wee Jas picture in Dieties and Demigods is pretty hot.

Even if you are confused, just remember, you worship a hot goddess.:D

Is that all you have to say? That she's "hot"? Hmph!

Seriously, there must be a few Greyhawk fans that know some facts about Wee Jas and her priesthood. I need some role-playing tips!

Sorry a man's gotta call em how he see's em.

I don't remember the Old Greyhawk stuff going into the Suel Pantheon much, other than as asides. If you can find a copy of the Scarlet Brotherhood (from just before 3e) you might find some decent info since the Brotherhood is Suel.

What role is the Priest playing? What are you trying to convey with the encounter?

Wee Jas is one of my favorite deities, and here is my opinion of her dogma.

She's generally against undead as they break the "natural" laws of life and death. That being said, she may give permission for her own followers to create/become undead if that directly serves her will. Such undead will only be tolerated as long as they serve Wee Jas--in such a way a necromancer follower of hers may become a lich. Uncontrolled and enemy undead should be destroyed if they can't be used for Wee Jas's greater purpose. Remember that the goddess has paladins in her service, they would be even more likely to destroy undead.

As for murder, as a lawful goddess, she would probably disdain casual and purposeless murder. Excessive murder or murder that results in chaos would similarly be rejected. Otherwise, its probably up to the individual priest's ethos.

Wee Jas's priesthood probably has VERY strict regulations about raising the dead--hours of forms, proof of Wee Jas's will, conferences on the worthiness of the supplicant, etc. Why would a lawful death diety lighty break the natural laws of death?

A series of articles in Dragon detailed the Suel pantheon in the 80's. Wee Jas is said to forbid her clerics from raising the dead without communig with her first to get permission. She is generally against it and will demote those who diobey her. About undead- she can summon lawful undead to aid her.

From what I recall Wee Jas was mainly the Goddess of magic but during the Baklunish/Suel wars took on the Death portfolio because of so many deaths (Greyhawk history here). Her main focus seems to be magic and law. Murder would seem to go against her strictly lawful nature and when playing with undead it might be wise to check with her first.:p She does not like chaos so undead with that discriptor might best be left alone or destroyed.
