Warscythe? Scythe a Medium Weapon?

First Post
Heres the question rather simply..

Could it be said that a 'Warscythe' be 20lb, x4 crit, 2d6 damage? the penalty is the weight (which shouldn't exceed a greatsword) and i don't feel it'd need a Exotic Weapon Proficiency.

And could it be said that a Scythe is infact a Medium Weapon, that if weilded by a medium character in one hand suffers a -4 to hit penalty? i mean, even halflings would prefer using a scythe over a sickle to cut crops...

Opinons?

Those are pretty much the stats of a Mercurial Greatsword. Exotic Weapon.

It's balanced as a Large Exotic or as a Huge Martial.

A Medium Scythe would do 1d6 damage. You could perhaps come up with a Medium Exotic version that does 2d4.

IMHO the standard scythe already is a so called warscythe... cause noone would love to fight with a normal scythe.

The description of the scythe weapon in the PHB states that the stats there are for a scythe that's been balanced and weighted for use as a weapon. It's not a basic agricultural tool, there. That already is a war scythe.

Weight isn't really a balancing factor when it comes to comparing combat stats vs other weapons. In this instance, you have a scythe that ups its normally 2d4 damage dice to 2d6. That level of upgrade puts it in the realm of Exotic Weapon Prof - as was pointed out, very similar to the Mercurial Greatsword.

And could it be said that a Scythe is infact a Medium Weapon,
Nope, large. A scythe is a pole with a big long blade on the top. You need both hands to control how it moves. You know how there's those two little stick jutting out from the main pole? Those are handles.

that if weilded by a medium character in one hand suffers a -4 to hit penalty?
Not without the Monkey Grip feat. It'd be like wielding a Halberd in one hand.. it could be done, but it would take some specialized training to do so.

i mean, even halflings would prefer using a scythe over a sickle to cut crops...
Yep, they sure would - a medium size (eg sized down one category from Large to Medium) scythe. A Halfling Scythe, similar to Halfling Nunchaku, etc. Med size, martial weapon, 2d3/x4. A medium size creature could swing one of those around without penalty, but really all your doing is swinging a really goofy-lookin pick at that point, that does slashing rather than piercing damage.

Yeah. The 2d6 version is probably a Mercurial Greatscythe.
Where's my Mercurial Greatspear, dangit?!

I would also like to request a Mercurial GreatGreatclub please.

Mercury makes everything better, don'cha know

The new A&EG scaling rules say 2d4 downsizes to 1d6 - which makes it nicely fit the heavy pick stats.
