Turn Undead per Day and Low Charisma?

And having played in a party with a Dwarf cleric who had an 8 charisma, I'd just like to add that both of those attempts are going to fail. Always.

Just sayin' ...

With poor CHA, those attempts are probably better spent fueling a Divine Feat.

Remember, a scroll of Eagle's Glory is nice to have in your back pocket to get an extra two attempts when, say, its 3 AM and the camp is being overrun with ghasts.

Just as a sorcerer doesn't get extra spells per day from an eagle's splendor spell, I'd be hesitant of allowing a cleric to gain extra turn attempts from it.

Doesn't a barbarian get extra HP from improved CON when raging?

Doesn't a monk get improved AC and higher stunning fist DCs from improved WIS with Owl's Wisdom?

Doesn't a sorcerer with a +4 enhancement bonus to CHA get increased save DCs and possibly prep more bonus spells?

- The SRD states, "You may attempt to turn undead a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier." That's pretty straightforward. If a cleric with 8 charisma has turned undead twice already, but then fires off a scroll of Eagle's Glory, he can turn undead 3 + CHA mod times (3 + 1). He thus has two turn attempts remaining (for the duration of the spell, at least). A caster that prepares spells can benefit from an enhancement bonus to their casting ability score as well, its just that the common buff spells don't last long enough to prepare spells (but a Cloak of Charisma would).
- I believe the FAQ addresses this issue.
- The Rules of the Game by Skip Williams doesn't answer this particular question.

It's not that they don't last long enough - even if you managed to get it to last 24 hours, you'd still run up against the sentence in Eagle's Splendor (or Owl's Wisdom, or Fox's Cunning) that says "No bonus spells for you!"

Didn't the FAQ or RotG cover the situation for a Paladin's Lay on Hands ability and casting of Eagle's Splendor?

In short, I believe that casting Eagle's Splendor would grant the cleric two extra Turn attempts per day, but only during the duration of the spell.

The capability is checked against your current Ability score at that time, not the long term score.

Using the dwarf cleric with 8 CHA example, he gets two turns per day. He uses one, leaving one turn attempt [max(2-1=1,0)=1]. Casts Eagle's Splendor, CHA bumps to 12. Checking the turns/day, he now has a maximum of 3+1=4. He has used one, leaving 3 turns left [max(4-1=3,0)=3]. He uses all three turns [4 used for day] in the next couple of minutes when overrun by ghasts. At the expiration of Eagle's Splendor, he has zero [max(2-4=-2,0)=0]. Casting Eagle's Splendor again still leaves him with zero [max(4-4=0,0)=0]. Only by donning a Cloak of Charisma +6 (or something similar) can he get a further turn in the day [max(5-4,0)=1].
