Tripping a much larger opponent?

The wording of Trip clearly states you can trip an opponent up to one size category larger than yourself.

Are there any ways to trip a much larger opponent without changing your own size? A feat, class ability, etc? Ways to be considered a larger size, without actually changing, would be helpful.

I need something available for a variety of races, but good to know =)

Well, the Jotunbrud feat (Races of Faerun) allows Humans to snag Powerful Build.
I think the only way to get Trip attempts against larger individuals is to actively gain in size, other than by use of Powerful Build/Jotunbrud.

Confound the Big Folk is a feat from Races of the Wild that lets small characters trip opponents at least two size categories larger. Also I believe that the Setting Sun maneuvers in the Tome of Battle may allow this as well.

The Setting Sun throws are a massive mechanical failure precisely because they neglected to get rid of the size restrictions, unfortunately. (They also didn't get rid of the tremendous size bonuses/penalties, either...try and read the origin story of SS's legacy weapon and not laugh)

I wish I could help you, man. I really hate the size restrictions, wish they'd all go away.

I made a prestige class focused on tripping that gets just such an ability.

And paizo's pathfinder recently put out a halfling monk archetype that likewise can. But PF nerfed the monk and that archetype is a complete and utter trap (as in, it looks awesome at first glance, until you really look into it and realize it has no chance in hell of actually functioning), so I don't suggest going that route.

It's actually for the purpose of using Setting Sun maneuvers that I'm looking into this.

The Mighty Throw chain starts by indicating making a trip attempt... then goes from there, so size does matter.

Toying with the idea of a Swordsage Tibbit (Tiny Housecat) that utilizes Setting Sun throws, just for the fun.

Yeah...the only success I've had w/ Setting Sun throws has been with the stereotypical best combat maneuver build: Big dude, lots of strenth, powerful build or enlarge person, etc...

Setting Sun throws not actually working for little people, against every single bit of explicit and implied fluff of the entire discipline, was EASILY the greatest failure of the entire book. :(
Is "ask the DM for a houserule" off the table? Like, in my Tome of Battle houserules, I have this for SS throws:

"Setting Sun throw maneuvers: There is no size limitation on the trip check. Strength-throws are otherwise unchanged. Dexterity-throws are changed as follows. Neither the opponent or the setting sun user apply their normal size bonus to the trip check. Instead, the thrower adds a +4 size bonus to his roll per size smaller than the target he is."

Totem Avatar feet bind allows you to treat yourself as a size category larger for CMB checks plus additional resistance to them. Initiate of Kord from Dragon Magazine also gives a +4 size bonus to those checks as wel, ie you can consider yourself larger.

oh... this could be helpful, I'll look into it.

Do multiple "Consider yourself one size category larger" effects stack?
