I had the idea of running an anime-themed one-shot game a while back, and whipped this one up, adding one to the worryingly large pride of feline character races floating about in the net.
So... Does this work? Are the stats balanced? Have I created something so utterly bad that I must bury my dice in the garden and never, ever open my PHB again? Suggestions?
Catgirl
Catgirls are a fun-loving and proud race of feline humanoids. Interestingly, they have no male gender. Catgirls mate with males of other species, mainly humans, elves, and half-elves. The children born in such unions are always catgirls.
Personality: Catgirls are a wild race, acting largely on instinct and impulse. They largely do not bother hiding their emotions, and most of them are utterly incapable of exhibiting any restraint. When angered, they can be fierce warriors, fighting with reckless fury. Their sense of curiosity is also often overwhelming.
Physical Description: Catgirls are, on average, mildly shorter than humans, and much lighter due to their slight skeletal structure. Apart from that, their physical qualities run the gamut. Some are born almost completely human, with just a pair of feline ears and a tail to show their heritage, while others are completely covered in soft fur. They may have a human's face, a cat's face, or a meld between the two. Their fur tends to be patterned like the coats of great hunting cats, though some also have calico or turtle shell patterns.
Relations: Catgirls are, by necessity, quite friendly towards other races, and get along especially well with elves, half-elves, gnomes, and halflings, as they share the same fun-loving nature. Humans are easily put off by the unrestrained nature of the catgirls, and catgirls have often reservations about humans, as they've been persecuted as spawns of the devil by several misguided priests in the past. Catgirls and dwarves cannot understand each other, the former regarding the latter as too serious and dour, unable have any fun, and the latter thinking the former to be flighty and vapid.
Alignment: Though they may be of any alignment, catgirls tend to be strongly chaotic.
Catgirl Lands: There is no such thing as a catgirl nation. They mingle freely with the other races in their communities, most preferring the rural areas, though quite a few have taken a liking to the big cities. They do not often participate in the governing of the areas they live in, but there are exceptions.
Religions: Most catgirls, if they think of religion at all, revere the goddess Bast, though some decide to turn to the Celtic deities.
Language: Catgirls speak Common. They do not have their own language.
Names: Catgirls are named by their mother in a ceremony conducted one week from the birth, during the night. In addition, catgirls take their mother's family name, though this is not often used, except in ceremonies.
First Names: Merle, Naria, Eriye, Mirri, Verina, Kentya, Dandeva, Urfa, Sendye, Fandha.
Family Names: Greatstripes, Quickpaws, Sharpclaws, Softcoat, Whitetooth, Longtail, Greeneyes, Darkfur, Fastrakes, Surefoot.
Adventurers: The catgirls often become adventurers, as much from their own volition as not. Their inquisitive nature often drives them to seek new lands, and they often become involved in adventures just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Racial Traits
· +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, -2 Wisdom: Catgirls are agile and surefooted, but their bones are thin and brittle, and they are too impulsive and curious for their own good.
· Medium-size: As Medium-size creatures, catgirls have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
· Catgirl's base speed is 40 feet.
· Low-light Vision: Catgirls can see twice as far as humans do in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish colour and detail under these circumstances.
· +2 racial bonuses to Listen, Search, and Spot checks. Catgirls have superior senses of sight and hearing.
· +2 racial bonus to Move Silently. Catgirls have soft feet and retractable claws, making them exceptionally good at sneaking about quietly.
· Keen Scent: A catgirl with Wisdom 11 or more may take Scent as a feat. See details on page 10 of the Monster Manual.
· A catgirl's sharp claws deal 1d4 points of normal damage with a successful unarmed attack. A catgirl may make only one unarmed attack per round using her claws.
· Automatic Languages: Common. Bonus Languages: Elven, Gnome, Halfling, Orc, Draconian.
· Favoured Class: Rogue. A multiclass catgirl's rogue class does not count when determining whether she suffers an XP penalty for multiclassing.
