Tiefling Wizard

I'm running a Tiefling Wizard in an upcoming campaign, and I'm allowed to DM just for the first dungeon, instead of waiting out the level adjustment. It's 32 point buy, and everything is put into con and int before racial modifiers. She's only 15, but has been working at a library, and has knowledge checks that are related to creature types, to get information on them in combat. I haven't figured out where I want to go beyond being really bookish and timid, and having lots of knowledge. Also, she was raised in a secluded mountain town, and was raised into neutral good. Taking that all into consideration, I'm looking for an optimized wizard build that suits her. I want to be as versatile as possible, and I only know (so far) that I want some mild blasting output, but no more than needed. I know I'm a bit vague in the build parameters, but any suggestions are welcome.

Learn Alter Self. Take the form of a Dwarf Ancestor in combat.

The feat Knowledge Devotion would be good for this character.

You should maintain a good stock of utility spells (Teleport, See Invisibility, etc), buffs (Alter Self, Haste, etc) debuffs (Grease, Glitterdust, Web, Stinking Cloud, Slow, etc) so you can be useful across a wide variety of situations. I'd suggest you limit your blasting to Lesser Orb of Acid (SpC), Scorching Ray, Melf's Unicorn Arrow (PHB2), Orb of Cold (SpC), and Enervation. Direct damage tends to be less effective a use of spell slots than crippling an enemy with a debuff that can last the entire combat, or buffing your allies.

There's a lot more advice here.

If you can afford it, I always recommend carrying your rarely or less frequently used utility spells in scroll form. That way, you have them if you need them, but can devote your spell slots to magics that you will use more often.

That's a superb page for referencing, Dandu, I'm going to give that a thorough investigation of when I have the time. Any suggestions in the way of prestige classes? Loremaster would be supplementary to the character theme, but anything is welcome.

... what.

Loremaster10/Archmage3 is a decent build. Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil might fit, but that's really too overpowered for most games, as would be Dweomerkeeper.

I notice Tieflings have an LA of +1. If you want to reduce this, you can use the LA buyoff rules or the Tiefling Savage Progression class.

ok... its a monster not a player character like in 4.0 is it really that hard of a comment? ITS 4.0 wrong section...

They're PC races as of the 3.0 Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, as well.

[/Tangent]

which book? Because I see them listed in Monsters of Faerun and they list favored character class but not as a pc that I can see.

opps... i found them in TSR 11836 I still agree with LX its a monster.

The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book.

They show up along with drow, the various flavors of genasi, and the aasimar. All are LA+X races.
