Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question.

So dwarves have proficiency with the throwing hammer. Great. Where is it on the weapons list (not there)? Or is a light hammer a throwing hammer when thrown? If it's the light hammer why wouldn't dwarves just have proficiency with light hammers? Or is this just completely over my head? Thanks for any help and sorry again for having to post a thread to figure it out.

I'd add only that the "throwing" bit in the Dwarf description is either (a) a mistake or (b) there to indicate that, to dwarves, light hammers are only good for throwing, and a REAL Dwarf would use a warhammer in melee. Fluff.
Either way, they'd get Proficiency in light hammer, so thrown or not.
Moot point for most classes as they'd get proficiency in simple weapons anyway from the class!

Ok. Cool. Thank you. I figured it was the light hammer, but the fact that the dwarves proficiency was throwing hammer instead of light hammer was throwing me. I wasn't sure if I should consider them only proficient if throwing the light hammer but not proficient with it in hand. Confusing that.

Jeremy Crawford has confirmed that light hammer = throwing hammer.

@jaa0109 PHB says Dwarves are prof. with throwing hammers, can’t find them on p.149. Stats? 1d6 bludgeoning, 20/60 range? Any reference to a throwing hammer should be to a light hammer. — Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) January 7, 2015

The light hammer was throwing YOU? Man, I hear tell of legends about the fabled dwarven throwers. Glad to have a firsthand account of one in action.

I imagine they changed the name somewhere in the development process and the dwarf entry didn't get updated. (I know throwing hammers existed by-name in previous editions. So did throwing axes, for that matter.)
