Thri-kreen and the other set of arms.

Ok, I accidently posted this in general last night, and looks like it never got moved over, but here it is:


a friend of mine is thinking of playing a thri-kreen and has a question about how the whole 4 arms works out with other attack actions. For example, if he is using a double weapon in one set of arms, can he use his other set to grapple?

IIRC, he can grapple with two arms, but he cannot attack with any other weapon unless it is light (or he is unarmed).

In addition to making opposed grapple checks, a character has a few other options while grappling.

Weapons: A character can attack with a light weapon while grappling (but not while pinned or pinning). A character can't attack with two weapons while grappling.

Check The Monster Manual 2, page 18 for the Multiweapon Fighting Feat. Note that since as of Savage Species, Thri-kreen have Weapon Familiarity with the Gythka and the Chakra, if they pick up Ambidexterity and Multiweapon Fighting, they can make make 4 attacks per round with two Gythkas, at a -2/-2 penalty.
