The Unthinkable Crossovers: Star Wars & Call of Cthulhu

I'm wondering if anyone would dare try and make a Call of Cthulhu/ Star Wars crossover...

Mainly just because of the nasty image I have in my mind of Cthulhu eating Jar Jar Binks and then exterminating the rest of the Gungan race.

But beyond that image, if any of you were to run a crossover would you somehow have the Sith related to the mythos. Or perhaps be really nasty and have both the Sith and Jedi associated with the mythos. And when the Empire rules, have Palpatine and the rest of his imperial goons all as one secretive cult devoted to the Elder Gods.

You could put Cthulu gods in the Star Wars universe, sure. But in general the genre's are completely incompatible. In Star Wars, band of friends is able to make take the destiny of the entire universe into their own hands. In the Lovecraftian mythos, the actions of the individual are ultimately meaningless. Hard to bridge the gap, while retaining the flavor of both.

I agree that it's hard to bridge the gap, but not impossible. The idea is that horror happens! Didn't Leviathan have some good horror elements in it? One of the things I loved about Halo is the Flood. If you don't know what I'm talking about, finish the game already. There are truly some great elements of horror in that first person shooter.

I don't think it is incompatible; I've seen it done before. You take the Dark Side of the Force and apply it to an ancient race of star-faring aliens who have laid dormant for millenia. Add a cult of Dark Side worshippers. Have the creature corrupt the PCs using the Dark Side.

Even better, all this Force nonesense is Nyarlathotep. Lightside, Darkside, it's all Narly. The entire Jedi order are cultists! He is granting his powers to cause chaos in the universe, Darkside vs Lightside.

Considering all the great, funky beasts that Star Wars has prowling around the galaxy, I think the monsters of the Mythos by themselves would make excellent additions to a Star Wars game.

But the feel of a Cthulhu game itself, the impossible odds, certain death...a little too anti-heroic for Star Wars. You could use it as alien inspiration, but I think a fusion of the two games thematically would be either very eclectic or downright incompatible, depending on your personal preference. :D

I ran a campaign using both.

A Jedi went mad and the characters had to hunt him down.

They were always one step behind him... and his carnage. They finally tracked down the ship that he crashed onto a desert world and found compujournal recordings elaborating his descent as a jedi to the madess of the Sith.

Eventually they tracked him down to a long forgotten world called Sarn, that was orbiting a black star that bathed the jungle world in endless night.

They located a dark temple on Sarn and there took on the insane sith, eventually overcoming with some casualties, they left the world as they were feeling themselves drawn in, and as they left, the proton torpedoes the temple and watched it burn.

We were going to have a second campign that chronicled some of them falling to the madness of the sith... but we just never did it as I lost my oomph to GM star wars...

It was fun and a very short but well run campaign that left my players clamoring for more, but I was kindog "Now I've been there and done that"

It can be done, and done well, you just have to have a thourough understanding of both genres and a firm idea of how to bridge them together.

Razuur.
