The Tarrasque: An indepth analysis

So apprently Tarrasques now project their own zone of gravity, which is WOTC's way of dealing with 'flying creatures vs tarrasque' issue. Not very elegent IMO since its a very metagamey solution, but I digress.

For those of you with the MM and who have read through it, how does the tarrasque compare to the earlier versions? Also, how does it compare to Orcus and Ancient dragons?

I haven't looked over the tarrasque, so I can't give an actual answer. I just thought it was amusing that a post labeled "An in depth analysis" was 5 lines long and didn't actually contain any analysis. :D

Yeah, talk about misleading titles.

As for the Tarrasque, it is so very, very delicious. I'd put it above the dragons in "oh shi-" factor.
It'd definitely give Orcus a beating, but ORcus cheats so he'd win out in the end.
Ancient Dragons are effectively snacks to the Tarrasque, but dragons would be smart enough to gang up on it, so again it would lose out.

But it is one scary mofo for the PCs. I plan to use him as one of the very final encounters in my 4E campaign.

I'd like Big T to be the end boss of my campaign but having started with KotS I think I'm gonna finish with Orcus.

And it's only 2 lines on my monitor. ;)

Its hard to give an in-depth analysis without actually playing against it. I'm not one of those posters who reads stats and jumps to some insane conclusion.

That being said, it seems to be insanely tough. It attacks fast, hard, and often, its attacks ignore all resistances with the cool and flavorful "Elder of Annihilation" feature (which thematically fits what I was going to use it for, hahaa!)

Most of its powers other than its cool earthbinding abilities are just straightforward attacks. Trample, tailslap, bite, rending bite, frenzy, etc

Looks like alot of fun!

They changed a bit of the fluff regarding him. Though he is still technically unkillable, sinking into the earth when defeated to rise again 'when hte time is right and you DM feels like it'.

There is a vague hint that permanent death could be acheived by separating Big T from the earth then killing it there. But that is left extremely vague, as it should be.

Sounds like an awesome epic level quest.

Transporting The Tarrasque out of the Prime Material Plane? I'm sure there'd be more than a few deity-level personas out there who would be opposed to the idea. Particularly anything primordial in nature. Seems like a good way to get killed.

*furiously notes down*

I could see finding out the hard way that the Terrasque is the "stomach" of a world and destroying it or removing it dooms said world.

Can you imagine an adventure centered around Rescuing the Terrasque from death and Returning it to the World so it can resume its function?

You just wrote Orcus's final evil plan for me...thanks.

Player vs Mr T (once they are manipulated into getting him off plane), players vs Orcus to be able to resurect Mr T, Players vs Mr T (once getting him BACK on plane) to return the balance.
The End.
