Cool! I've always loved the movie (although I've not seen it in years). I never read the book, though... Although I may do so know that I know a film's coming out. I assume this will be a live-action film?

The animated version was released on DVD last week and is one of my all time favorite movies. If you've not seen it I highly recomend it. The screen play for it was written by Peter S. Beagle, which makes me substantially more hopeful about the live action movie. Since he's doing the script for that as well. We already know that Christopher Lee's perfectly suited to the roll. However there is something deeply ironic in Mia Farrow going from Lady Amalthia to Molly McGrew. It will put Molly's "Where have you beeeen!! Why didn't you come to me 20 years ago, 10 years ago. Why do you come to me when I am this..." rant in a whole new light. Especially since it's been over 20 years since she made the last one.

I wonder if they'll keep any of the songs by America, from the animated movie. I know most of them really contributed to the feel of the movie.

I just hope it will be as good as the old animated movie was.

Seconded to all of the above. I remember seeing the original animated version in the theaters. I have a feeling they won't keep the music (since that was probably more to do with Rankin-Bass), but I really did enjoy the music. And the movie was, like The Princess Bride, astonishingly faithful to the original book. I have no doubt in my mind that we owe this to LotR.

Christopher Lee is, to my mind, King Haggard. Now more than ever, really.

That was possibly the most depressing book I have ever read. I'll have to check out the movie.
Really? I remember it being wistful, but not a bit depressing. Interesting.
