The Glove of Storing.

Say you have a Glove of Storing, worn on your left hand which is also your shield hand. Would the shield count as a "held object" so that you could store it and unstore it as a free action?

If you loosen it first, that might work, but not as only a free action, as it has to be strapped to the arm not just held in hand.

Hmm, as far as I recall, a heavy shield must be firmly grasped and held with the shield arm's hand to be used, blocking that hand for other use. So, it would work for a heavy shield but not for a light shield or a buckler, where you have the hand free for using items.... At least for storing the shield it should work, no idea how you would resolve the fact that the heavy shield needs to be strapped to the arm too , besides being held when you want to use it. Maybe house-rule it that the item always appears in the position held when it was stored ?

That's how we use the Glove in our campaign. You must be holding the shield in your hand, not strapped to your arm and ready to use, to place the shield into the glove. When you recall the shield from the Glove, it appears in your hand and you still need a move action to ready it for use.

Personally, I think that that inda defeats the purpose of storing a Shield in a glove of Storing. Frankly, ever since 3.5 has come out I've been pissed off at the price of Gloves of Storing (for 10,000 gp, it might as well cook breakfast for you or something), so if it were in my campaign, I'd let a shield come out strapped to your arm.

Wouldn't it be better to use a buckler or light shield and store some other useful object in the glove, like a wand or scroll for a cleric or druid, or a potion of some sort for a noncaster? Or use the glove on the weapon hand and store the weapon in the glove for spellcasting (cleric/druid again), using a heavy shield, perhaps?

Well, the reason that I asked was in regards to a paladin. He wields a longsword and large steel shield, but there may be times (breaking through DR, using Power Attack, etc.) that he'll want to use the longsword in two hands. In such situations I'm more concerned with loosing the shield as a free action, rather than readying it.

However, I'll admit that I hadn't noticed the price had changed for 3.5. 10,000 gp! Whoa! I agree with UltimaGabe. The darned thing seems way overpriced.

Overprized? For most purposes, it's worth a feat and more... (quickdraw and quick sheathe for one weapon), so 10K gp is cheap.

Yes, you can store a shield in a glove of storing. It's a free action to pop it out of the glove, and then a move action to strap it to your arm.

My RPGA character used to have two gloves of storing and Called full plate. He could go from nake to fully armed and armored in one round. Now he only has one glove, but both his shield and his armor have the Called ability, so it takes him a round a half now.

A buckler might be a bit unstylish for a paladin, but would be exactly what you need for this fighting style.

What Darklone said. The price is really fairly reasonable.
