The D&D Drinking Game!

Dark Jezter

First Post
A while back, somebody made a poll about D&D cliches. Now, considering all the various drinking games you can find on the net (such as the Buffy Drinking Game and the Star Trek Drinking Game), I thought I'd start a thread so that people could make a drinking game for common D&D/Gamer cliches. Anyways, without further adieu...

Take a drink whenever...

The party meets in a tavern.

A mysterious NPC gives the party a quest.

The PCs wipe out a troublesome band of goblins/orcs.

The PCs encounter a good-aligned drow (take two drinks if the good-aligned drow is actually a member of the party).

An elf acts arrogant.

A dwarf acts grumpy.

A gnome plays a joke on someone.

A half-orc says/does something dumb.

The party contains any of the following: A brooding elf ranger, a kleptomanical halfling thief, or an aggresive dwarf fighter with a scottish accent.

A PC's background contains the sentance "His/her family was brutally slaughtered by goblins/orcs."

How to graft a drinking game onto D&D rules...

Of course the first question is: is drinking a reward or a penalty? My feeling is that the way to make a good D&D drinking game is to limit the drinking to long combats. That way, drinking can function as a penalty as it further handicaps you in the combat. Also, that way, forcing the DM to drink will increase your survival probability. So, I would recommend the following rules framework:

Beverages
We need class-based or race-based drinking. By race, drinks should break down as follows:
Humans: Determined by class.
Dwarves: Beer, ideally Guinness or some other opaque stout. Emulating a dwarf's constitution is challenging so naturally dwarves should have to consume a larger volume of beverage than anyone else. Plus, dwarves clearly drink beer according to fantasy literature. So, for every shot (30ml) everyone else takes, a dwarf must drink 1 cup (250ml) of beer (same amount of alcohol).
Elves: White wine is in order here clearly but ideally ice wine (if you're fabulously rich) or muscat (ice wine's cheaper younger brother). Again, amounts must be adjusted so that elves consume a half cup per standard shot. We'll need to build some justification around this.
Gnomes: Gnomes should be required to consume some kind of alcoholic beverage that is difficult and complex to make as well as weird-looking. My first instinct is to suggest shots of equal parts Blue Curacao (that ultra sweet citrus liqueur that is dyed blue) and Avocat (Scottish egg yolk liqueur).
Half-Orcs: Half orcs should not be allowed shot glasses. Exact measuring is foreign to them. Thus, I would recommend that the half-orcs' players be required to keep their bottle in the paper bag in which it was purchased. Just as well as Half-Orcs should drink the must obviously alcoholic low tech cheap drink possible. I recommend overproof vodka or rum -- something that can be used to light the barbecue if there is any left over.
Halflings: I'm out of ideas.

I have to go out now. I'll be back with more suggestions. We might want to think about things that can happen in combat that should justify someone taking a drink. I would think one obvious condition is -- failing to inflict any damage.

to correctly represent CON, I would think you would have the elf drink more and the dwarf drink less amounts per drink, thereby making the elf get drunk quicker/easier and the dwarf last longer. Of course, this could also be accomplished via differnt alcohols. One drink of beer (Assuming you don't drink the whole glass) contains less alcohol than a drink of wine.

No good can come of this!

No good that we'll remember, anyway... :p

Drin... Erm... ...that is... Game On! :D

LOL!

We are going to be so sober in our group. Minus the player we kicked out we meet zero cliches ...

Jeeze we need more reasons to take a slug :D

In 1987 in Detroit, I had a drink called a "Bloody Brain" - it was mostly clear liquor, but there was a heavy white liqueur which stayed together in a small mass, and then a red liqueur (probably grenadine) which made the "blood"--all in all, very fun to look at, but nothing really memorable taste-wise. This is the drink for gnomes. Here is a recipe I just found on the web:
Ingredients:
3/4 oz Peach schnapps
A float of Bailey's irish cream
Several drop Grenadine

Mixing instructions:
Pour schapps into cordial glass then gently float Bailey's on top. Drip grenadine into glass. It is very important to drip the grenadine one drop at a time for maximum effect.

Creator/contributor's comments:
Looks horrid: tastes like chewing an entire pack of Juicy Fruit gum at one time.

Malt Duck. Think, "grape beer" - it's absolutely revolting, and the first thing I ever got buzzed on.
