Is Tri Stat a different breed altogether or as good as D20?

Didn't know where else to post this.

Guardians of Order makes the game system, and personally I feel it is superior to d20 in many ways, with the exception of the most important one...that is popularity.

Basically, despite the supremacy of the system and the versatility provided, due to d20's popularity of D&D you'd be better off with the lackluster d20 system and find players when getting a new system could be a waste of time and money.

Unless you have a group of willing players already lined up to give Tri-Stat a try, I'd say not to go for it.

I've used Tri Stat a bit and enjoyed it (as a GM). It's lite and easy to learn. The only real problems I had were:
1.There aren't many examples in the book (occasionally leading to a bit of confusion)
and...
2. The GM has to mold the system a bit for whatever campaign they've got in mind.
It does mean there's going to be more work required for the GM initially, but the system's remarkable flexibility tends to make up for it.

At Origins and Gen Con they were selling the tri stat system for a buck. It doesn't seem that bad, but I'm not looking for a new system just now. But it's in the collection waiting.

I downloaded the free TriStat dX system. Personally, I find power system to be less intuitive than HERO, despite hero's extra math. So I don't really like the system.

I dig it. I played it when it was BESM, started with 1st edition, got the deluxe limited printing 2nd edition with full color plates and am curious to see what they do with the next edition.

Their BESM d20 is a very interesting take on a d20 point built system losely tied around classes. Also good stuff.

If you wanted Hero at a simplier level, this is it.

My comment may come to late, but I'll weigh in anyways...

I'm in a Silver Age Sentinels (Tri-Stat superheroes) game that's been going for almost a year now. I've found the system to be very good - my personal comparison with Hero is that I find it simpler and lacking some of the flaws I perceive in Hero.

I have no idea how it would work at a lower power level, like heroic fantasy, say. A regular sword in Tri-Stat does something like 8 damage; our characters are wielding magic staves, breathing fire, and so on, which often does 60-100 points of base damage. (It's a sort of mystically-oriented superhero game.)
