Tavern brawler; little buff to make more usefull and available to more characters.

Horwath

Legend
Tavern brawler;
  • Increase your str, dex or con by +1
  • Your unarmed attacks deal 1d4 damage
  • You can use str or dex for your unarmed attack roll and damage roll.
  • You are proficient with improvised weapons
  • As a bonus action you can make one unarmed attack or grapple attack
  • If you have levels in monk class your unarmed damage is one die category larger

This would open up the feat to many more classes/builds and would add something useful to do with your bonus action every round.

I'd say tavern brawler was already very good, and giving a free bonus action to everyone is too good.

Too good?

IMHO, the feat is bottom tier. I would take is only for heavy RP reasons.

as for bonus actions; 1d4 damage with very little hope of getting some magic upgrade to that attack.

Well, I'd definitely take that.

But I'd want it even more if you switch that bonus action atack to an improvised weapon attack.

Grappler builds are strong... maybe not the ultimate char op, but strong. And TB is a very handy feat for a grappler build.

But if no one at your table grapples, and you feel like the fighters aren't dealing enough damage, then go for it. No one can say if it will work at your table better than you :)

I like the bonus action unarmed strike. I also like making the grappling check no longer conditional on a hit with an unarmed/improvised hit. This is Tavern brawlers big weakness. I don't like the Dex or monk stuff on the same feat.

If you want an eastern martial arts grappling feat (a totally valid opinion) you're better off making a new feat than expanding tavern brawler with Monk options.

Sure, but why reinvent the wheel, tavern brawler is a good idea for a feat. It just needs a littel bump. Also grappling is tied to athletics check which is tied to strength, so you cant have all dex with this feat. Dex will be good for striking but grappling still requires strength.
