SWRPG Dissipate Energy feat

I am just starting to create a character for a Star Wars campaign and have read and re-read the description for the Dissipate Energy Force feat. It appears to allow a Fortitude save to avoid energy damage, and to convert that energy into healing. Since it's a reaction, a character with this feat would be able to avoid all damage he suffers in any round (subject to successful Fortitude save) AND be healed to maximum vitality. It's like standing in the middle of a firefight and yelling "shoot me". Am I missing something? Has anyone used this feat in practice, and what were the results? Are there any House Rules on it?

Cheers, AK

There has been lots and lots and lots of discussion of this feat. Here is the result:

1. JD Wiker confirmed that the feat only applies to wound damage (converting that into vitality points) making it's application much more limited.

2. JD Wiker and Morridin (both SW RPG writers) have in the SW FAQ (available from SWRPGnetwork and Wizard's Boards) amended the feat further to have a fortitude save with DC = wound damage +10.

Hope that helps.

My personal additional amendment is that it doesn't work against Light Sabres - which is why ALL Jedi of all stripes use light sabres to protect themselves.

I too use this house rule. What the hell is the point, otherwise? You could use Force Points to soak pretty much any lightsaber hit at high levels. I doubt Yoda and Dooku would've bothered with sabers if they could just soak it. (And if that's still a spoiler...shame on you, see the stupid movie.)
