Swinging By A Rope?

What skill would you use if you wanted your character to swing by a vine from tree limb to tree limb, Tarzan style? Or, maybe you've tossed a rope around a bush growing out of the side of the mountain, and you use it to swing across the chasm.

What skill? Jump? Use Rope? Climb? Tumble? A Reflex check?

I'm leaning towards Jump.

I would consider it a climb check if you touch the ground* in any way or a jump check if you don't, giving a +10 bonus for using the rope in any case.

*the ground could be a wall or a tree too

If it was someone with the brachiation feat, I'd assume they automatically succeed. Without the feat, see my comments below.

For the tossing of the rope, and hoping it snags onto something, I'd do a Use Rope check. A serious failure and the rope misses. A "just" failure and the rope appears to hold, than I'd roll again in mid swing to see if it slipped a little and therefore had the individual land a certain number of feet off course.

For the falling and swinging, I'd assume it just happens due to gravity.

For landing at the specific spot the PC wants to land, I'd allow a Tumble (Twisting my body in midair after the jump), Jump (I pushed off the original surface with great accuracy), or Climb (I raised myself to the correct spot for accuracy before jumping off), whichever was highest, assuming the individual character would stylistically base his or her success off of what they best knew.

This reminds me a bit of the Skill Trick Whip Climber from Complete Scoundrel.

Whip Climber [Manipulation]
You can use a whip as a grappling hook.
Prerequisite: Use Rope 5 ranks, proficiency with the whip.
Benefit: You can use a whip as a makeshift grappling hook, lashing it around a protrusion or other firm, weightbearing object in order to climb a wall or swing across a chasm. You make Climb checks using the whip as if it were a normal rope. Using this feat requires a Use Rope check as normal for securing a grappling hook (PH 86) but takes only a move action.

So I guess it's first a Use Rope for whatever rope-like thing you're using, and then just a Climb check.
