Has anyone watched the series Storm Hawks on Cartoon Network? They aired a marathon today of the whole series up til now (it started airing in March), so I set the TiVo to grab it.
It reminds me a bit of Eberron, believe it or not, though that's primarily because skyships feature prominently. It's actually very, very reminiscent of Star Wars, except on a terrestrial scale. Certain people are Sky Knights who have special moves (seriously, they call them "moves" as in, "I guess I just figured out my move," so says the main character after performing his move for the first time), and the melee weaponry is energy-based and bladed, though it's not a total rip-off of lightsabers. A lot of the aerial action scenes, at least in the pilot, reminded me of some of the battles in Star Wars, except imagine that Luke and Wedge and all the TIE pilots were riding on the outside of their ships and clashing swords as they buzzed by each other.
Basically, the world of Atmos consists of cities called Terras which are on the tops of mountains. The surface, referred to as the wastelands, is an uninhabitable and dangerous area. All travel is done through the air. Actually, the Wikipedia article I linked above does a good job explaining it.
It's not as good as I would have hoped, but it's worth watching. I've only watched the first episode so far, an hour long two-parter, and it was decent.
The dialog is terrible, and the story's servicable if cliche. I like the animation style, and the general design of the world, but I'm not a fan of the character design. What makes it all worth while, however, is the action and the premise. Absolutely fantastic action scenes and the premise is fun and interesting.
