Stone to Flesh without the spell...

First Post
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how a character group might be able to help a companion in a forest (with some feys as well as evil beasts, such as a Medusa) might be able to "un-Stone" a fellow PC without the aid of having a Stone to Flesh Spell?

Thanks

Where does it say that?

I just looked up Remove Curse and I didn't see anything about reversing the petrification caused by anything (much less a medusa/gorgon).

Where did you read that it did? Page reference please?

Break Enchantment (Brd 4, Clr 5, Luck 5) can do it. Here's the relevant section from the SRD:

"This dispelling spell frees creatures from enchantments, transmutations, curses, and petrification (as well as other magical transformations). Break enchantment can reverse even an instantaneous effect, such as flesh to stone. For each such effect, the character makes a check of 1d20 + caster level (maximum +15) against a DC of 11 + caster level of the effect. Success means that the creature is free of the spell, curse, or effect."

Polymorph any Object (Sor/Wiz 8, Trickery 8) can do it as well. From the SRD:

"This spell can also be used to duplicate the effects of polymorph other, flesh to stone, stone to flesh, transmute mud to rock, transmute water to dust, or transmute rock to mud."

If you're a DM planning an encounter, you could have your PCs stumble across some stone salve. That's a wondrous item, 4000 gp per dose.

If you're a player, worrying about how to save your companions, you're probably in trouble. If you don't already have an applicable spell or item, and you can't Teleport to a city for a shopping trip, it sounds like you'll be dragging some statues around for a while.

If you don't have Break Enchantment, your next best bet is Shrink Item. It reduces the statue to a manageable size so that you can take it back to town, unShrink it and have it restored to life (or, have it restored to life still shrunk should you prefer...)

If you've got summon monster IV and a cleric who's in good with a reasonably powerful church and a cache of money, you're golden, baby:

1) Summon a lantern archon.
2) Give it a pouch containing 1,125 gp and a letter to a high poobah in the temple. The letter should read, "Dear High Poobah: Hi! It's Pielorinho. Remember me from church camp? I hope everything's going well there in Verbobonc. Hey listen, the reason I'm writing you is that I'm off smiting evil in the wilderness, and we've run into an eensy problem. One of my "congregation" (yeah, ha-ha, like these other adventurers have ever bent their knee at an altar -- but anyway!) has been turned to stone by a medusa. I've enclosed a suitable donation to Mother Church; would you see about arranging for a break enchantment scroll to be available for my messenger-angel at this temple at noon in three days' time? Or if you have a scroll ready, you could send it back with my messenger angel now. Thanks, high poobah -- you're the best! Love, Pielorinho"
3) Have the lantern archon teleport, carrying the sack o' loot, to the temple.
4) At noon in three days' time, summon another lantern archon to go back to the temple to pick up the scroll and return with it.
5) Cast Break Enchantment from the scroll onto your friend.

How's that?

Your DM hates you, doesn't he?
