Sports in D&D

I have a question to all you imaginative minds out there.

Thinking of Eberron and seeing the stuff on GoatBall mentioned in the blurbs around Races of Stone, I was wondering about 'medieval sports'. And I do not mean stuff like jousting, but more stuff similar to our own sports such as Tennis, Hockey, Football, Golf etc.

Something for which there would be leagues and maybe olympic-style games in the game world.

So,... any thoughts??

I played in a game several years ago where the DM had created this whole Olympic style game and the adventure took place "at the games."

We were all competitors, and had to compete in Strongman type contests (Caber tossing, stone throwing etc.) as well as scavenger hunts, swimming, triathlon, and non-lethal gladiatorial matches and wrestling. Behind the scenes, of course, the plot was that some other competitors were cheating, and a mob-type group was trying to influence the outcome of the games.

It was cool, but some of the games became boring to play. We all got sick of it near the end.

I was thinking of placing a sport like Jugger into my campaign world (with lots of clerics nearby for healing...). We had also some arm wrestle matches in a tavern...
