Spell Resistance, Spell Immunity, and Wizards

Why is it that wizards, as masters of magic, dont gain access to Spell Resistance, Spell Immunity, and Greater Spell immunity? It seems like it'd be a perfect fit. Many a mage has been frustrated by monsters with Spell Resistance...seems like they'd come up with a spell to duplicate it. Wasnt the 2nd edition Magic Resistance spell a wizard spell?
Same for Death Ward really...mages have the best death spells..but cant ward against them?
Does this seem odd to anyone else?

I think it's been set up this way since clerics in D&D have traditionally been the defensive spellcasters and wizards have been the offensive spellcasters. I don't think putting Spell Resistance, Spell Immunity, and Greater Spell immunity on the Sor/Wiz list would be particularly unbalancing, but you'd have to try it out and see.

Mantle of spell resistance, babeeee... Hey, at high levels, SR 32 for 200k!

Or the wizard could be a counterspeller (Improved and FR's Reactive would be vital). Though it's much easier to counterspell as a sorcerer.

I understand that thats probably the reason..but it still doesnt make sense especialy with this.
But themeticaly, to me, Spell Resistance seems like a spell any magic-user should have access to.
And think of it this way...Clerics supposedly dont really learn about or recieving training in magic..it all comes right from their god/philosophy...whereas wizards study the underpinnings of magic...and sorcerers are born with it...and yet they can cast a spell to grant a creature resistance to it?
And if clerics are supposed to be the defense, and wizards the offense, why do clerics get so many attack spells?

Doesnt do your part memembers any good.

I'm not talking just about personal defense against magic. I'm talking about themetics...and the unfairness of the whole clerics are defense/wizards are offense but clerics still get a load of offense deal.

Wizards have Otilukes Sphere and similar spells

whats Otiluke's Sphere got to do with it?

So, can anyone offer me any reasons wizards/sorcerers shouldnt be able to cast Spell Resistance etc besides " Clerics are supposed to have better defensive spells" or "wizards already get anti spell spells"?
