Some assistance with a Bodak would be greatly appreciated

First Post
This is my first post here since I really need some help. I've been palying 3.5e for about a year with a Druid.

2 sessions ago I finally hit level 8 and I'm the only not multi-classed character. Our party is all human and consists of Druid (8) Wizard/Rogue (7/1) Cleric/Paladin (5/3) Fighter/Barbarian (7/1). We were doing a pretty standard undead type dungeon encountered some shadow mastiffs and an shambling mounds. For reference my animal companion was just killed by the wizard whilst fighting a dragon and I had no chance to actually get a new one as yet.

We had done pretty well, only using a couple of spells before we encountered the Bodak. This is not entirely relevant but DM misunderstood what cold steel is and none of our regular weapons were working. I'll spare you the horrible details but essentially, I wild shaped into a bear grappled the Bodak, not knowing what it was, and proceeded to try to bite it's head off. In doing so I got caught in the death gaze and was killed (roll of 14!). This is fine, we go through the rest of the fight and they eventually kill the Bodak with no other casualties.

After it's all done the DM asks if I want to keep my character and I do, so he says we need to find a way to save him. I know we have 24 hours before I become one. I was the only person in the party who could have cast any kind of resurrection (reincarnate I think).

We are 3 days horse ride from the nearest town who think I murdered their mayor (I was framed) and we have no horses since a dragon ate them.

Does anyone know any way that I could be saved in this, beyond DM interference?

I like this character a lot and had just started being an animal all the time since I was just a druid who couldn't speak

Any assistance would be great!

Oh my. That's quite a pickle you have presented me with. I don't believe there's much that can be done. If no one had multiclassed, they'd still be a level away from the best solutions I can think of. (Which is why I don't often suggest that spellcasters multiclass, but I digress.)

I'll keep thinking about it, but you might just have to take this one.

although not exactly RAW, there should be ways to prevent or delay your transformation.

gentle repose could (and this is up to your DM) delay your transformation. The same could work with things like a bless spell. You were in animal form at the time of death, so you might just be not-humanoid enough to be raised as a bodak.

by RAW, there are also some options:
-destroy the body, true resurrect in town
-have your cleric friend animate you as a zombie before you turn into a bodak. You can be killed and raised/resurrected in town after your zombie-self is killed. this may have alignment repercussions for your cleric/pally friend.
-tie up your body (important: use a blindfold too for that death-gaze), or stuff it in a sturdy coffin, or both. soaking the body in holy water for 24 hours is optional. so is leaving the body outside in the sun. this will not prevent you being turned into a bodak, but will kill the bodak pretty quickly, after which your body can be raised. This works better if you were killed in the daytime, since 24 hours after death will once again be daytime.

Spawn Screen from LM would have worked. If it was cast on you before you died. :( The spell specifically states it has no effect once you've been killed. You could ask your DM that you can use that spell as a base and make a spellcraft check to get it to work.

Consecrate says that undead cannot be created or summoned within the area. Your cleric could, at the very least, delay your rising as undead. I don't know if it would stop you from rising if you're in a consecrated area when you hit the 24 hour mark.

You could try the Ungent of Timelessness since it makes that one year is a day for the object. Your body is an object but in the end it would be the DM's call. Personally, I think you'd be better off arguing Gentle Repose.

The only other thing you could hope for is that the Bodak was going for "stealth" and willingly chose not to create spawn. Libris Mortis has an alternate rule for that.

Remember that you're going to need at least a Resurrection since you got slain by a death effect.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I'll bring it up with the DM. He's pretty happy he finally killed one of us, especially me since I have this habit of not dying, even being sucked into another plane of existence didn't stop me coming back and killing a would-be god. That said, he's pretty fair and tries to make the game fun for everyone.
