Smile 2: Review Spoiler Alert

Given the spoiler alert is right in the title I won't bother with tags, I'll just get to brass tacks as they say. Naomi Scott deserves the Oscar for Best Lead Actress for this, she just absolutely brilliant, rich proformance from her that draws us into her world and experience.

I never say Smile 1 so I went into this unbiased by that.

This is psychological almost lovecraftian horror that makes me thing of the Chronicles of Darkness multiverse.

It's gory at times, has some of the BEST jump scares I've never seen.

I put this up their in the Hellraiser Tier were the best Hellraiser movies dwell.

The Smile Entity is creepy and terrifying in a way that nothing other then the best of Hellraiser movies have been able to achieve.

Naomi Scott is amazing singer and you can find like an albums worth of songs she sings from the movie.

One hell of a redemption arc, a redemption that proved to be just a trap, and her worst nightmare realized.

It's messes with your head, great twists, deep characters, all kinds if different types of scares, and sets up a bright (dark) future for the Franchise.

With word of mouth expect this movie to have legs.

I hope Spirit Halloween has some Smile Entity merch next year.

Also it's fun to speculate on what exactly the Smile Entity is, like is it a demon, a ghost, a living meme, a psychic alien, just an infectious mental disorder, lovecraftian horror, one of the Furies from Greek Myth, who knows. There is still mystery there.

With Skye infecting her whole audience at the end, Smile 3 is actually set up to be very different, the stakes go from just personal, to global fast.

I went for my birthday and had a blast and some scares.

I liked Smile 1, but man this one knocks it out of the park. Honestly one of the scariest movies I have seen in a long time.

What I think was done so well, is that when you get the inevitable horror movie build up (and you know something is about to happen), sometimes the movie pays it off as you would expect. But then other times it just brings in the pain from left field and you never see it coming. I found this juxtaposition kept me off balance and so I just started getting nervous at all sorts of moments in the movie that I normally don't.

Very well done, I am not a big horror movie guy but I will say for any horror movie buffs....this is the one to see this season

I can see them going two ways with Smile 3. Either as you said, it is now a global phenomenon, which would be a very different movie imo. An Alien 2 to alien, probably more of some kind of action thriller than a suspense or horror movie.

Or they can use it as an easy jump off point to a very different setting. The monster can still only infect one host, but it gets its pick of people across the world. So they could set up the next one basically anywhere.
