Skull and Bones Character Problem

Sherlock

First Post
I am starting a Skull and Bones game in a few weeks and I am just getting characters from my players. After looking over the first four, I see that I have a problem. I have two sets of the same character!!! It is uncanny. Two players created pretty much the same PC with no contact between them. Do I go to them and say "Try again"?

It doesn't HAVE to be a problem... Kinda depends what sort of characters they've made and what sort of campaign you're running.

If you find that it IS problem, ask them both if they might volunteer to make a new character, possibly in return for some small bonus to their new one. If neither is willing, flip a coin, or have them roll for the privelige of keeping their character.

Have them "Roll the Bones"...Winner keeps his character.

Split the baby in half. Then, whoever refuses...

Tsunami reads the post again

Oh, eh, that's not going to work.

Yeah, I say test it out first. Could be fun. And, if it's a problem, I'm sure the players will be willing to work it out. After all, the game is about having fun.

And if they refuse...

Split the characters in half...

No, no, not "pretty much" the same PC - the same PC!

Just slap on Sean K Reynolds' Two-Headed Mutant template, and you're away!

There's a short story by Timothy Zahn, where some government agency has recruited what appear to be a bunch of ordinary people to infiltrate an alien spacecraft. Everyone else who's gone in has been mesmerised by the aliens' Zombifier Projector, but for some reason the agency seems to think these people will be immune.

It's not until the end of the story that you realise the "group of people" was in fact one person with a multiple personality disorder, having undergone a special process for this mission that allowed all the personalities to be "active" at the same time.

Having two players fighting over control of the body could be fun!

I dont think I phrased it right.

There are two sets of identical characters.

two duel pistol weilding sea devil sea dogs who like to drink...

two ex gentlemen monkey having lucky devil buccaneers.....

see my problem

I can actually picture it being a whole lot of fun letting them both play those characters.

Remember the Simpsons episode where Lester and Eliza show up and solve some problems before Bart and Lisa can?

You might end up with two characters being rivals over who's the biggest dual-pistol-weilding sea-devil sea-dog ex-gentlemen monkey-having lucky-devil buccaneer who likes to drink.

My monkey can beat up your monkey.

Have NPCs recognise one of them on sight, and not have a clue who the other is. Then, in the next town, switch it around.

And then, have the NPCs recognise one of them... but think he's the other one.

Let them vie to build up the more famous/infamous reputation.

Could be great... :)

Gee, I'm having flashbacks to that old comedy movie. Can't remember the name right now, but it had two sets of twins in the French Revolution. One set was raised as aristocracy and the other were paupers. It turns out all four were born on the same day in the same inn, and the babies became mixed, so one set had one twin each. Great rollicking fun.
