Skills and reflex saving throw vs. max dex bonus

Does the max dex bonus from armors apply to skill checks as well ?

I mean if you have a +3 dex modifier and you use a half plate, which has a max dex bonus of +0, does this apply your skill modifier as well.

So if you before used a hide armor your hide was:
+3(dex)+4(ranks)-3(armor check penalty)=+4 total

then you put on a half plate would it then be:
+0(dex)+4(ranks)-7(armor check penalty)=-3 total

and would the reflex saving throw go down too ?

I know its says max dex bonus in the armor decriptions and i would assume that it would only apply to ac, but im not so sure that it should'nt also apply to the dex ability modifier too, because the armor check penalty does'nt affect your reflex saving throw and i think it should, because you should have it easier avoiding a fireball while wearing nothing vs wearing a half plate. If it affects the saving via the dex modifier cant be more more than your max dex bonus it would apply directly at the dex modifier, but then the dex skills would be affected doubled from ability modifier and armor check penalty.

I cant get it to make sense.

Still your reflex saving throw should be affected somehow by what armor you use, unless a reflex only is to hit the ground, which i dont think it is.
But then again why should only a character with a positive dex modifier get a penalty for wearing bigger armors.

I think there's something wrong here, maybe i should try to make some house rules on the subject.

There's nothing wrong here, but you're more than welcome to make a house rule.

Your dex bonus to AC goes down because you are wearing heavy armor. A person with a +6 dex mod that is wearing a chain shirt will have a much easier time moving around than a person with a +6 dex mod that is wearing full plate. The heavier the armor, the more restrictive it is, thus you apply less of your dex mod to AC.

I agree, but why is the reflex saving throw not affected by the armor you wear ?

Because the rules don't state as such. Look at it like this, your armor protects you from certain attacks, say a fireball. Your buddy in hide armor will make a reflex save and step outta the way. You, however, in full-plate, might step a little slower on a successful save, but you step far enough that the small part of the fireball that does manage to graze you is just gonna get deflected by your damn-thick armor. That's one of the ways I look at it anyway. If you read into this more than I do, you're gonna run into a really complicated house rule. Furthermore, you'll make heavy armor obsolete, as wearing heavy armor will simply translate into death.

Also if you change saves you need to change Inisitave and that will make heavy armor obsolete.

Think of it as your reaction time. No matter what you were, your reaction time stays the same. Slow ppl are slow fast ppl are fast.
