Shouldn't drawing arrows from your quiver be a 'drawing a weapon' move equivelent act

Shouldn't drawing arrows from your quiver be a 'drawing a weapon' move equivelent action?

Thought of it recently.

No, because then archers would only get one attack per round even with a full attack, and I would hate you.

Rules-wise, it's not "drawing a weapon", it's "reloading", and the rule says that it's a free action to draw a new arrow.

Interesting thought. Then you'd need the Quick Draw feat or something. Sort of makes sense, since reaching back, grabbing onto an arrow (and only one arrow), drawing it, nocking it to your bow, and pulling the bow seems like it should take at least as long as pulling out a dagger within easy reach and throwing it.

Then again, you can't really analyze any of this stuff too hard...

Read the Quickdraw feat:

A character who has selected this feat may throw weapons at his full normal rate of attacks (much like a character with a bow).

And p. 113, Weapons, subheading Ammunition:
When using a bow a character can draw ammunition as a free action; crossbows and slings require an action for reloading.

The "when using a bow" part is important. You cannot, for example, draw an arrow as a free action and then use that arrow as an improvised melee weapon to poke someone in the eye.

Well, Legolas can--but he's Legolas.

No. Otherwise bow suers only get one attack per round, and more importantly sling and Crossbow users only get one attack every OTHER round.

Drawing ammunition is a free action and should remain so.

Thanks, Phillip.

Knew it was out there, just didn't know where.

Didn't know about slings, though.
Don't know why that's not a free action.
And sure cocking a crossbow is move equivelent, but pulling ammo shouldn't be any harder than pulling an arrow.

And I guess since darts are not ammunition, they take a move equivelent, too.

Don't you just love this game?
