Short Question about Sunbeam spell.

Sunbeam spell has casting time of 1 standard action. And it says "For the duration of this spell, you can use a standard action to evoke a dazzling beam of intense light each round."

Does that mean a caster needs 2 standard actions to start attacking enemies? I mean, in the 1st round he takes a standard action and nothing happens. Then in the next round he takes a standard action to shoot one beam (if he wants to do so in that round). Right?

Yep, that seems to be the case - the first round he casts the spell (standard action), but can't actually use it. The second round he can generate a beam (standard action). Or, of course, he could do something else.

I do hope the effects of the beam are sufficiently powerful to justify 'wasting' a round. :)

While the beam is very effective against undead creatures, I doubtful if that justifies "wasting a round" with this 7th-level spell.

Still, it may work as I am planning to give this spell to an intelligent item. It can take it's own action. So, at least, the user does not waste the first round of the combat.
