Short of Restoration/Lesser Restoration

Adventurer
okay so in the session yesterday two of the PCs got grappled and had ability damage from some very nasty undead.

with no cleric in the party nor potions nor scrolls nor ..

what options are available to restore the ability damage?

heal check and bed rest would get back 2 pts with 8hrs rest and 4pts with full bed rest. unfortunately, we are still in the thick of things. and may not have a chance to rest.

one PC lost iirc 9 pts of wis and the other lost 3.

any other ideas?

You could use periodic infusions of Owl's Wisdom to help compensate for the ability loss...

But there's no way to recover lost ability points short of rest (which only heals temporary ability drain) or spells from the Restoration line.

Potions of Lesser Restoration aren't expensive though. A group that lacks clerical/druidic healing would do well to have a stockpile of Lesser Restore, Cure Disease, and Neutralize Poison potions...in addition to the more common Cure potions.

i used 34 charges from 2 wands of cure lt wounds yesterday.

plus the bard used up a stockpile of cure mod wnds potions.

I'll point out that potions of lesser restoration are great, particularly so in combat. Casting it would take 3 rounds while consuming the potion would take only a standard action (not counting the time to retrieve the potion). Any adventurers who don't invest in these potions are foolish indeed! :)

You seem to play rather high level (fighting level 15 drow priestesses and all that), so if you have a wizard you could use Planar Binding to call a creature, that can cast those spells (i.e. Ghaele Eladrin or Trumpet Archon).

That's what my sorceress does (our cleric died and didn't come back). :D

Ouch. That doesn't sound like a great situation... No more will saves/life affecting decisions for Mr -9 Wis!

I'm not entirely sure on whether it would work, but you could try changing shape into a type that is immune to ability damage?

The spell description says you keep your original mental stats, but if you're immune to drain it might arguably 'supress' the loss until the spell wears off... Not much help if you don't have Polymorph and it does seem a bit nebulous.

Looking at the GM with pleading eyes and asking to extend the Heal skill slightly? Possibly assist this with some survival checks to find Aragorn style healing herbs?

CotSQ.
we had just fought a Fighter/Blackguard/Champion of Deity (CR16)... by the name of Khumarr.

the next room up for us was the Lesser Temple.
we had Seeming for our disguise so we looked like drow... but in fact the party:

halfling 6ranger/4rogue/2dragonhunter (diaglo)
deep halfling 9bard/3arcanearcher (biorph) formerly kobold..formerly elf
gnome 12sorc(JoeBlank)
dwarf 1ranger/4Fighter/2monk/5Justicar(howandwhy99) .... wis 5 currently
human 6fighter/6rogue ... wis 3 currently

The priestess was in conversation with her lover. she asked us about the noise.
the bard bluffed.

and i told her Khumarr had gone to White Castle.

turns out the lover was a rogue/monk/assassin with the vampire template... :heh:

EL 18...
Ouchie was right...
