Shift Question.....Do Constructs have normal senses?

we are playing in an epic level campaign and one player isa Druid 18/shifter 18. Well i am having problems limiting his power. One idea i have thought of is the fact that constructs...which he can turn into, do not have normal senses. i have ruled that they have sight and can sense the presence of living creatures within 15 feet so long as they would be in normal sight (ie no obstructions or invisibility) . is this fair or too limiting.
has anyone had any problems with Shifter Power?

Constructs have darkvision 60 ft. Same with undead.

You could give undead "life-sense" as a house rule (goodbye Improved Inviz :D), but it wouldn't make sense for a construct.

Ok...i know they have darkvison but my question pertains to the senses a construct might have.
I understand undead having necrotic senses powered by unliving biological proceses but do Constructs have auditory nerves or tactile senses? Can they talk?
Would a Shifter Level 10 prestige class that wild shaped into a construct talk, touch or hear? Why do they have listen checks? Should a clanking iron Golem give the other party members listen penalties
PS epic campaigns area bitch......CRs are screwed up....i bumped Strahd up quitea bit (10 CR higher than the party) and he can stil die in one round in one on one combat against a power critical vorpal sword.

constructs can hear and see, but not talk, unless they were built like that which I personally would rule a nono on since that would be a special construct and when you change forms no matter what it is from you assume the form of a normal creature, no matter what it is you are turning into. And as for the how can they hear question. Well they have to be able to listen to commands somehow, otherwise they wouldn't be more then just expensive statues. So all in all, sight and auditory they do, as for the other senses I would say no to, along with speaking and reading and stuff like that. The reading thing won't be a problem since the shifter keeps his own mind, but he won't be able to speak, and as for writting, now that would be funny to see what the writting would look like from the not so delicate and not so dextrous hand of a construct.

Berk's idea sounds good.

Yeah, once you have a 10 level shifter, it very very difficult to control their power, as the power of anything they fight becomes theirs.
