That is totally awesome. You mix dish soap and paint and just paint on a laminated map. I was trying to figure out how you know where to rub off. You need to have a cheat map for the DM.
This would be great on a large encounter map with minis. It would emphasize the reach of torches and such.

It's not new. I got the idea from somewhere several years back
I did this when we played tomb of annihilation. It had its pros and cons like most things. Only time we ever did this so likely had more cons than pros. Especially the mess.
