This is the final result of This Thread. I had fun playing with Google Sketchup.

Samson is my PC Factotum and maker of Wondrous Items. I'm not currently playing him at a level where he could produce one of these yet, but it'll happen.

What do you think? Would you buy one?

Nope, too small too risky and costs too much. I would prefer a *something( of teleportation 2/day (to go back and forth to my house) or a rope trick magic item which is way safer and better and cheaper.

Oh and I would sell it if I found it as loot

Ok, I can get the small and costly and not comparable to Rope Trick, but risky? How so?

EDIT: My Addled, baby-induced-sleep-deprived brain progressed from "Permanent Rope Trick Magic Item" to "Ball of Yarn Relic item of the deity Ceiling Cat, Patron deity of Tibbits". There could be something very fun if I followed that rabbit trail, but I need the rest instead.

EDIT: My Addled, baby-induced-sleep-deprived brain progressed from "Permanent Rope Trick Magic Item" to "Ball of Yarn Relic item of the deity Ceiling Cat, Patron deity of Tibbits". There could be something very fun if I followed that rabbit trail, but I need the rest instead.

everyone can throw things in (like alchemists fire), you can't open or close it from inside and if someone throws a cheap bag of holding inside you get a trip to the astral plane

It expressly states that a Portable Hole can be closed from the inside, which I've understood to mean no one on the outside can mess with you after you've done so.

"This hole can be picked up from inside or out by simply taking hold of the edges of the cloth and folding it up. Either way, the entrance disappears, but anything inside the hole remains."

However, I hadn't considered the Bag of Holding bomb, that would be very bad. I concede that point.

Portable Holes are great for heavy and/or large cargo transport.

Bag of Holding or Handy Haversack items are better for adventuring types though, since you can get things out of them in a hurry.

Having both in the same party is a bad idea. Having one designed to live in makes a bad idea into a terrible idea. Too big a chance of the wrong person dropping in while carrying their BoH or HH.

Hm... is there a "Barring extradimensonal space" spells that could prevent a Bag of Holding from passing through? Can spells like Dimensional Anchor be used for this purpose?
