Rust Monster vs. Iron Golem

First Post
What would you rule happens when a PC Polymorphed into a Rust Monster hits an Iron Golem with a Rust attack?

It certainly looks like the Golem gets a Reflex save or be destroyed (assuming it's not more than 10' cube of metal) but I wanted to check what others think would happen.

Thanks.

I haven't ever seen anything to contradict a rust monster attack from destroying an iron golem. Remember tht when the iron golem attacks, it may need to make a save as well. I've always assumed rust monsters were quite effective against iron golems because of that. :)

I don't like my Iron Golems to have such a terrible achilles heel, so I treat it as per a rusting grasp spell - 3d6+level damage per attack.

Well, Both Iron Golems and Rust Monsters act predictable... so this is how I imagine it would play out

Rust Monster HP: 27

Iron Golem: HP: A Whole Bunch, doesn't matter to a rust monster

Initiative.

If Rust Monster wins, he licks his chops and charges. The Iron Golem can use it's breath weapon as a free action, and if faced with only one enemy, would surely do so at the first available moment. Rust Monster takes 1d4 con damage unless it saves fort DC 19. For ever 2 con lost it loses 10 hp. It would have to roll a 17 or higher, 85% chance for failure. The Iron Golem would also get an AOO for it superior reach. At +14 the Iron Golem needs to roll a 4 or better to hit the Rust Monster. 80% chance to hit. It it not subject to a reflex saving throw when it hits a rust monster and instantly it effected.

Assuming the Rust Monster Failed and lost at least 2 con, it'd be at 17 hp, or it rolled 4 on its con drain, 7 hp. If the Golem hit, the rust monster would take 2d10+7 and by the law of average 18 damage, and die horribly. The Iron gollum instantly loses 10' of iron off it's body (which would be an arm and part of the torso, unless he had a weapon) But it would win, all though be very damaged.

If it didn't take enough or any con damage, it would require a maxed out roll to kill the rust monster, Baring that the rust monster would follow up with an attack at +3 to hit touch AC 8 (75% chance) and probably eat the iron Golem legs, followed by the rest of him.

However if the Rust Monster was effected by the breath weapon but just didn't die, it would take 3d4 the next round, and probably die right after the Golem.

Me too, which is why I asked myself "WWHD?*" and just removed Rust Monsters from my game.

You can only take free actions on your turn; similarly, if the rust monster wins, the golem is flat-footed and can't take AoO.

So if the rust monster wins init, and is within charging distance, it eats the iron golem for lunch (in all probability).

If the golem wins, then it might be better off, being able to get off that breath weapon, but it will still probably get rusted away to nothing, or at least lose some limbs, since it probably can't kill the rust monster without touching it (unless that Con drain drops the critter to 0 con).

Hm, hadn't considered that.

Well if an Iron Golem wins intiative it would still probabley kill its self in the process of crushing the Rust Monster. Unless you rule the Iron Golem to just be one big suit of armor and entierly corrodes with one touch.
