D&D 5E Running an Alien adventure in 5E D&D

Hi ya

I plan to run my players in an Alien like adventure perhaps next month, something along the lines of the first movie. This is the Adventures premises:

Near Hommlet, beneath the Castle Ruins layed for thousands of years an old and forgotten network of halls and rooms which belonged to Ortlieb Halmann, a grand wizard who liked to research various objects that fell from the heavens. Unfortunately for Ortlieb and his apprentices, they had brought back a large piece of space rock that contained a creature and two of its eggs, Once the space rock was opened, the creature leapt out and killed both apprentices instantly. Realizing the danger if such a creature escaped beyond his sanctum, Ortlieb sealed the main door and confronted the alien creature, he ended up dying but did cause severe damage to the alien. Realizing there was no way out the Alien creature put its self in some kind of stasis to await to when the seals were broken and it could make its way out of the wizards labyrinth.............

So my question is, is there a 5E monster equivalent for Alien and its face hugger spawn?

Refluff mind flayer, intellect devourer or Grell. Your idea is cool, but put in a little more complexity, maybea predator also?

What CR? I'd second grell but chuul could also work. Another alternative would be to go The Thing instead and use doppelgangers (maybe add the Greater Doppelganger ability to absorb memories after eating a victim's brain) and/or mimics. I'd also agree that devils or demons would work very well, possibly reskinned. Slaad, maybe?

Have the Slaadi been converted to 5e?

In 3.5, the Red Slaad can implant an egg in a victim that hatches into another Slaad in about 1 weeks' time. It's a great goto creature for an alien style adventure.

Hi-

The Party should be at 5th level in a months time, I level PC's some what slowly. So I think I will be looking at a level CR 7 or 9 creature to match up against the PC's. The old Wizards Labyrinth will have the same lighting as in the original movie IE dark with blinking lights, the Wizard had eternal emergency lights installed lol.

I do like the ideas of using a Demon/ Devil as an Alien archetype with the Bone Devil probably being a good Alien candidate. My players love this sort of stuff as do I but I do agree that a group of warrior type PC's will have less problems dealing with an Alien adversary than a normal type person would. Still I will endeavor to do my best in breathing life into this adventure and give it my best shot.

Thanks for your suggestions also, much appreciated.

Exactly. AFB at the moment but they're definitely in MM or VgtM. At least one type can disguise as a humanoid too, if I remember correctly.

Red slaad, MM 276. And the egg hatches in 24 hours.

That could work for what you're seeking. They're CR 5 each though, so it would be a tough sequence of encounters for a 5th level party.
