D&D 5E Restrained + Enlarge

What do you think happens if someones tied up with a rope and gets enlarge cast on them? I've been looking for some presidence on this matter in the sage advice but haven't had any luck. Would the rope break, the spell fail or the rope grow with the targeted creature?

I would say the rope enlarges in the same way her clothes and other gear she is wearing or holding does.

I think my call on this specific matter would come down to why the enlarge spell is being cast.

Is the caster trying to use the spell to help the bound creature escape the bonds? If yes, then that works and the rope is burst by the enlarging creature (or, at the very least, an immediate check with advantage is made to see if the rope is burst).
Is the caster trying to make the bound creature a larger bound creature for some reason? If yes, then that works and the rope is enlarged as intended by the caster.

I think all three options are good calls, depending on how you want the situation to work.
1: The rope grows as it is technically "worn", now there's a tied-up giant in the room. Much lulz ensues.
2: The rope breaks, because cinematically that's awesome. A cool fight ensues.
3: The creature is unable to grow and the spell fails, because the rope counts as limiting space.
And an unmentioned, and possibly disturbing 4: the creature gets sliced in half.

Well, the casters intent in the situation is to let the restrained person break free, last session a player was captured and they want to go in and save him

One entertaining possibility: if the caster makes a DC 10 Arcana check they can make the rope stay the same size and get burst; otherwise it's a 50/50% it grows along with the tied-up creature.

If the caster can choose what grows, then the spell becomes much more powerful. But the DM has the final decision, so start writing down the out of the box interpretations.
