How far is it to get from the heart of Breland to an Aundarian city that is easiest to get lost in?

Furthermore, how long would it take to get there by foot, mount or rail?

About 2200 miles.

Using what map? I can't find a scale on my 4e maps, but on the 3e maps I've seen the distance from Wroat to Arcanix is a bit under 1000 miles. The city of Passage is a bit further and probably easier to get lost in.

I'm not sure what counts as the "heart" of Breland, though. The nation has somewhat odd boundaries; most of the population should be around Sharn and Wroat way in the southwest, but then you've got Starilaskur and Vathirond in the east (though postwar Vathirond is pretty depopulated). In the middle, I suspect there's a whole lot of nothing, especially once you get off the roads/rail lines.

I see Breland as kind of a mix of 1700s mercantile England and frontier America, so I imagine there's plenty of places to hide out without even leaving the country.

You're right, I used my scale* incorrectly (in my defense, it was late and I was tired). From Sharn to about Fairhaven is roughly 1900 straight-line miles (give or take). I've never seen an actual journey that was straight line, but that's a different issue.

If you're looking at over-land from Wroat to Fairhaven then it is shorter (about 1800 miles, 1700 as a crow might fly).

Note that Arcanix is a village. While possible, it is difficult to "get lost" in a village unless the villagers are actively helping you. The (presumably) Brelish exiles would be doing well not to be exposed / lynched by the villagers.

*3.5 ECS; I don't have the 4E one handy.

As lukelightning said, the journey can take as long as you want and be as eventful as you desire. The time on foot would be roughly 12 weeks, possibly longer depending upon weather and terrain issues. Riding, it depends upon the speed of the mounts (Nightmares are faster than Horses, and Great Wyrms can get some decent overland speeds going). By lightning rail, well, you have to figure the relevant distances along the rail network. Air ship would be the fastest but isn't always the best (so many modules crash airships).

Good luck.

Yeah any time your PC steps on board a vehicle with the name "ship" in it they should be terribly concerned. Whether it be krakens, sahaguins, flying sky pirates, etc. there's nothing but trouble once you board a non-landbound vessel. So I caution against hitting them too often on that, sometimes it's just an uneventful journey, othertimes the journey's more than the destination.

Even if you avoid things with "ship" in the name, Breland alone has places called "The Bear's Wood" (hmmm), "The Dragonwood" (sounds fun), "The Greenhaunt" (lovely in the summer, I'm sure), and the "Black Pit" (a popular destination for vacationers, perhaps).

Khorvaire's still a fairly wild continent. The central Five Nations area around Thronehold might be pretty settled by now, but the rest... The huge changes to national borders at the end of the Last War should give you an idea of how little control most nations have over much of their claimed territory.

According to the 3.5 Explorer's Handbook, it would take 2 days and 11.75 hours to get to Passage from Sharn by Lightning Rail. Total distance: 1793 miles.
