D&D 5E Racial Stat bonus Wisdom..

I may have missed it but it seems that Wisdom only get a +1 bonus from a couple races, while all the other stats get up to +2. Was this a mistake or did the developer's decide +1 was enough for Wisdom?

I just don't think any of the races they have designed jumped out as "The Wise Ones" who have needed a +2 Wisdom bonus.

in Volo's Guide to Monsters, there's the Firbolg as a PC race, which has +2 Wis.

I went looking for this a while back when building a monk. There are indeed no PHB races with a +2 Wis.

The Planeshift Elves from Kaladesh (in the Magic The Gathering setting) are +2 Wisdom (instead of +2 Dexterity), being hyper perceptive.

(The Elf feels better as +2 Charisma − Bards, songsters, poets, charmers, enchanters, innate magic, etcetera. But maybe the Eladrin Elf can be this.)

to the OP: i think Asimar and one of the Githyanki or Githzerai has the +2 Wis, but that is not PHB.

DS Thrikreen and Halflings had it in AD&D 2nd, so maybe they could get it again.

Any group of humanoids who live in close union with nature should eventually qualify for +2 Wis.

I have seen this complaint before. Other than the Firbolg, Variant human (Observant, Resilient, and soon the XGTE Feats), , The fact is with the standard point buy, +1 is basically the same as +2. That is to say, you can start with a +3 wis bonus. For a monk that means a Wood Elf or Kenku can start with +3 mod in Dex and Wis. Even if you did get a +2 wis, then you'd only have a +1 Dex (max) and only be able to get +3/+3.

If you are using rolled stats, it only matters if you happen to roll even on your highest stat.

If you allow UA, then the Githzerai also have +2 Wisdom. But yes, I found it odd that of the core races it was the one ability score that didn't have a race that gave it +2.
