I am in a hell-based campaign, playing a Bard and I really want to make use of Magic Jar. I am trying to figure out how to make it viable and useful.
A few specific questions:
1. What are some good ways to tote my catatonic body around? The 1-minute casting time means I can't really use it in combat, so it is a precombat spell, but then I am out of the fight until I successfully possess someone and I need to figure out how to tote my body around, or alternatively leave it behind and make the decision I am going to be playing in someone else's body going forward. Maybe fold it up and stick it in a Secret Chest and cart it off to the Ethereal Plane?
2. I will be playing a campaign in hell where souls have value. Is there any way to get the other creature's soul out of the jar? If the spell ends with the creature's body more than 100 feet away the creature dies, and the jar is destroyed but can the soul be captured somehow?
2. It only affects humanoids, is there a way to circumvent this RAW with another spell. For example, can I get around this with True Polymorph - Polymorph say a Dragon into a human infant then cast magic jar and possess the infant, then have someone stab the infant so it reverts to a Dragon, so now I am possessing a Dragon. Does this work? Is there any way to do it with a lower level spell?
3. How do death saves work on the body you are possessing RAW? Usually monsters don't get death saves and die at 0 hit points. If I am possessing it do I get death saves when the body I am in goes to 0? This is important because dying instantly at 0 hps and forcing a charisma save is pretty dangerous.
4. What happens if I cast Death Ward on myself before casting magic jar. What happens if my catatonic body dies? What happens if the possessed body dies? What happens if the jar is destroyed while my original body is more than 100ft away?
