D&D 5E Question: Does Hexblade's Locks use CHA while using shield mastery's shove?

Hello fellow players.
Please, forgive my truncated english.

Recently, the doubt has arisen over the shove attack.
the DC defining roll, the 1d20+STR+Athletics, can be considered an attack? Its listed as a subtype of attack actions, even being a subtitute as one of the attacks.

The context.
An hexblade warlock uses his CHA instead of STR or DEX on his attacks rolls and damage rolls.
With the shield master feat, he can add the shove attack with the forementioned shield.
BUT, as written above, he can only do it on his attacks.

The question is:
IS shoving someone an attack?
IS shoving a resisted skill check?

If its not, then the Hexblade cant use his CHA instead of STR.
If it is, then can he use CHA to push ppl around?
RAW? RAI?
Ty all for reading and for your opinions over the matter.

There are three uses for a d20. Attacks, Ability Checks, and Saving Throws.

Shove is a Contested Ability Check, not an Attack, so I would say no.

Ty for your answer.
As it is, there is an actual description listing shove as a contested ability check, not an attack.
Wow, that was quick :)

Right it is a funny case. It does count as an attack (a "special attack") but it does not use an attack roll.

The hex warrior ability says you get to use your Cha for attack rolls, not for attacks in general. Also, it restricts using Cha to when you attack with a weapon, which you aren't doing when you shove.

So it doesn't work for your unarmed strikes either :)

What if my fanged maw is a natural weapon, which I can use to make unarmed strikes?

The rules for monster natural weapons are kind of vague. But when a PC ability enhances an unarmed strike, then it is still an unarmed strike and you're not using a weapon, regardless of how they describe it.

So your saying I need to be a Hexblade Moon Druid, since they have natural weapon attacks which are NOT unarmed strikes and you retain your INT/WIS/CHA while wildshaped..
