Gate Pass Gazette Question about Arcano-Pugilist

I'm running a game and have a player playing an Artificer Arcano-Pugilist. The question came up about the PugiTek Training feature and while I have a fairly good idea on how to answer it i thought I'd get some second opinions.

Does the ability to deliver spells through unarmed attacks allow the artificer to cast spells that normally have a range of Self on other creatures?

My initial answer is yes with the trade off being that the target still takes unarmed attack damage but I could also see the logic in the feature essentially turning all the artificer's spells into range Touch when used on a willing target.

What do y'all think?

No, I don’t think the feature allows it. The key language is: “This limits the spell’s range to that of your unarmed strike and the number of targets to one.”

The feature doesn’t expand the range of spells with a range of Self.

Hi. I wrote the archetype.

Short answer: @Sepulchre is right. As-worded, delivering your spells through your fists limits potential targets rather than expands as worded, as published.
The version I allow at my table allows you to deliver spells with a target of Self to other creatures, though, and we haven’t had any problems with it.

I don’t remember why this exact wording got into the final publication.
