Psychic Rogue?

I've seen references to a psychic rogue is passing on the boards, but I've never actually seen this class anywhere. Is it an actual published class or just a homebrew? If a homebrew would anybody care to share?

There's the WotC version: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040723b

... but mine was out first, and is frankly a lot better: http://fishnet.cx/~josh/DnD/DHE/new-classes.shtml#psininja

They both have their merits, I think the WotC version makes a better rogue than yours does, sorry Nifft. The psininja seems more oriented towards combat with the bonus feats and whatnot, although it's exceptional power list and the fact that it goes up to 6th level powers like the psywar are definately better than the WotC one. Although the fact that it's based off of Wisdom is less useful than the WotC's one being based off of Intelligence.

Although I get dissatisfied with both of them are they are both focused on a specific type of breaking/entering/combat sneak type rather than the highly skilled manipulator type which the rogue class can also fill. Particularly their power lists push them away from such a role, if they included things like charm person or various people manipulation powers they'd be more appealing than if they were so focused on normal thief type things.

Thanks for your feedback, Ferrix! No need to be sorry. :)

One thing to consider would be using all the bonus Feats to take Expanded Knowlege (Psi Charm, Psi Suggestion, etc.) -- bonus [Psionic] Feats need not be combat related.

If you want a non-combat, non-sneaky dude with psionic powers and social skills, though, try playing a Psion (Telepath) -- they get Bluff, Diplomacy, Sense Motive and Gather Info.

Well, you can play a Psion (Telepath) but you still aren't a rogue type. My problem is the lack of versatility of the psychic rogue, I can make a rogue who doesn't have hide, move silently, open locks and disable device, but has bluff, sense motive, diplomacy, spot, sleight of hand, to be an amazing con man who when things get rough can flick a dagger out for sneak attack. The telepath however can't do that. Taking the bonus psionic feats as expanded knowledge works alright, however it'd be nice if some of those things were already in the power list.

Part of me agrees with you, but I worry about stepping on the Telepath's toes. The power list I put together for the PsiNinja avoids anything that has a direct combat effect -- self-buff is okay, though.

As a variant -- sort of a Psi Bard, if you will -- I'd certainly allow a PC to trade 2nd level evade burst and the Nomad discipline powers for access to the less combat-oriented Telepath discipline powers: Psi Charm, Mindlink, Detect Thoughts, Psi Suggestion, Modify Memory, Mind Probe.

Hmm, could be that PsiNinjas need Disciplines... hmm.

Thanks, -- N

PS: ... but you can't make a Rogue who lacks Evasion, or who's not proficient with the Shortbow, Shortsword and Sap. There's always room for character concept to clash with archtype. :)
